Duties:
• Read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, specifications, and sketches to determine project requirements, measurements, and required materials.
• Prepare accurate layouts in accordance with approved plans, project specifications, and applicable building codes using measuring, levelling, and marking tools.
• Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join wood, engineered wood products, lightweight steel, and other construction materials using hand and power tools.
• Construct and install structural components, including foundations, concrete forms, floor systems, beams, wall framing, partitions, ceilings, and roof structures.
• Install subflooring, sheathing, doors, windows, stairs, railings, moulding, baseboards, cabinets, hardware, and other interior and exterior finishing components.
• Perform rough and finish carpentry work while ensuring that all components are properly aligned, level, securely fastened, and completed according to project specifications.
• Inspect existing structures to identify damaged, deteriorated, or improperly installed components and determine the appropriate repair or replacement work.
• Renovate, maintain, and repair residential, commercial, and other structures by replacing damaged framing, flooring, trim, doors, and related building components.
• Calculate material quantities, prepare cutting lists, and minimize material waste by planning the sequence of work and using materials efficiently.
• Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment, including circular saws, mitre saws, table saws, drills, nail guns, routers, levels, and other specialized equipment.
• Coordinate carpentry work with other trades to ensure that framing, openings, supports, and finishing components are completed according to the construction schedule.
• Examine completed work to verify measurements, structural stability, workmanship, and compliance with drawings, building codes, and quality standards.
• Identify construction or installation problems and make the necessary adjustments to ensure that the work is completed accurately and safely.
• Provide technical guidance to carpenter helpers, apprentices, and less-experienced workers regarding measurements, material preparation, tool use, installation methods, and workplace safety.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all occupational health and safety requirements while performing carpentry work.
