Job Description
Norwest Millwork Ltd. has established a reputation for outstanding quality and service as an interior finishing and millwork contractor. The company is located at 138 Riverside Dr, North Vancouver, BC, and the workplace depends on the construction site in the Lower Mainland. We are currently looking for one cabinetmaker who can join our team as soon as possible. This is a full-time, permanent position for mature individuals with a cabinetmaker-related background. We offer a competitive wage rate. All applicants should be able to communicate in English. However, given the demographics in the Lower Mainland, the ability to communicate in a second language will be an asset.
As cabinetmaker you will be responsible to construct and repair wooden cabinets, furniture, fixtures and related products in commercial and residential projects. This role will perform all but not limited to the following duties:
-Study plans, specifications or drawings of articles to be made, or prepare specifications
-Mark outlines or dimensions of parts on wood
-Operate woodworking machines, such as power saws, jointers, mortisers and shapers, and use hand tools to cut, shape and form parts and components
-Trim joints and fit parts and subassemblies together to form complete unit using glue and clamps and reinforce joints using nails, screws or other fasteners
-Sand wooden surfaces and apply veneer, stain or polish to finished products
-Repair or restyle wooden furniture, fixtures and related products
-Instruct younger workers
-Maintain clean and safe work environment
Job Requirements
Education
-Completion of High school
Experience
Though a formal trade certificate is not required, we require
-At least 5 years of work experience as cabinetmaker
Essential Skills
-Able to use hand and power tools safely
-Ability to perform measuring, sizing, and cutting tasks
-Ability to trouble shoot and repair a wide variety of problems in residential setting
-Ability to safely lift, carry and move standard construction material and tools
-Must be able to work without supervision and as part of a team
-Ability to work with precision and good organizational skills
-Be self-motivated, punctual, reliable and hardworking
-Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
-Ability to commute to any of our site locations throughout Lower Mainland
-Own tools and equipment required
