Detailed Job Description:

The Role:

Reporting to the Category Manager, the Buyer is responsible for achieving the applicable and relevant key performance indicators. This position requires managing of local and overseas products as well as buying activities for Omni-channel in the assigned region. The position is responsible for providing support to the Merchandising Department and both offline and online stores in strengthening the overall performance of the South East Asian line of products through recommending new products, partnering with vendors, conducting product promotion and planning. This position needs to work closely with various internal departments and external suppliers in completing multiple initiatives on a timely manner.

Major Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

1. Achievement of applicable and relevant key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Responsible for achieving the applicable and assigned KPIs which include but are not limited to Gross Profit, Sales, Inventory Turnover Rate, Unfilled Rate, Slow Moving Products, New Items Development, Promotion Plan and Sales Achievement, Inventory Level and Wastage
- Accountable for the overall performances of the South East Asia line of store products in the eastern region
- Analyze financial results, conduct variance analyses by period and take appropriate actions to ensure goals are being met
- Generate reports and perform analysis on product selection, sales, pricing, market reports, and other related data

2. Vendor Partnership, Product Promotions & Planning
- Partner closely with vendors to establish creative pricing and programs to exploit potential business opportunities, this includes but is not limited to soliciting exclusive brands or products for T&T
- Develop programs that differentiates T&T’s products from distributors, conduct sampling and in-store promotional campaigns
- Plan and execute Weekly and In-Store Specials as well as other promotional campaigns for all eastern region stores
- Cultivate and further develop relationships with existing suppliers through relationship building and repeated negotiations

3. Sourcing and Purchasing
- Negotiate, source, procure and replenish South East Asian products from local and/or overseas manufacturers, distributors and/or agencies at competitive market price, ensure accurate delivery
- Continue to expand the number of product SKU and new business opportunities by building relationships with new local and overseas suppliers which specialize in South East Asian products
- Maintain a healthy percentage and selection of South East Asian products through direct importing (DI) and direct store distribution (DSD)
- Work closely with suppliers, shipping team and store receivers in ensuring timely deliveries, maintain optimal inventory level and product quality
- Assist Merchandising Manager in product category review and analysis to ensure sales opportunities and profitability
- Share best practices and new products with the Buying Team; maintain knowledge of emerging trends through networks with internal and external stakeholders

4. Perform any other duties and other assignments as requested by the superior(s)

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:

1. Possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in product procurement for chain stores with knowledge, network and experience in procuring South East Asian products
2. Possess good technical knowledge in product categories, product specification, pricing, and other mandatory standards, legislation and regulation requirements
3. Resourceful, effectively keep up with market trends and information
4. Strong analytical skills with the ability to generate/analyze data for business needs
5. Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders; with strong written and verbal communication skills in English
6. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to solve problems independently and build collaboration in a team environment
7. Flexible; adaptable to internal and external changes
8. Proven negotiation skills with sound business judgment and decision-making, knowledgeable in import, procurement and Canadian trade practices
9. A credible self-starter with good time management skills; always take initiative to learn and improve
10. Completed college education with intermediate level in MS Words and PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
11. Ability to travel as required
