Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our Ottawa team. This is not an entry-level role; we are looking for a professional who has experience working within a public accounting practice or a similar multi-client environment. The ideal candidate is someone who can work independently, manage strict deadlines for multiple clients simultaneously, and possesses the technical proficiency to handle complex year-end file preparations.
Location: 8-1145 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, ON K1V 0Y3
Salary: $33 to $36 per hour (to be negotiated) – performance bonuses may apply at the owner’s discretion
Hours: 35.00 hours per week
Permanent employment Full time
Starts as soon as possible
Working hours from 09:00 to 17:00
In person – no remote work
Employment Requirements
• Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma (1-2 years) or equivalent experience OR equivalent professional experience.
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of full-cycle bookkeeping experience. Experience working within a public accounting or professional services practice is a strong asset.
• Software Proficiency: knowledge of Caseware, Caseview, QuickBooks, Sage 50, ProFile, and MS Excel is required.
Main Duties
• Maintain full-cycle accounting records and ledgers for a diverse portfolio of corporate clients.
• Prepare and process complex payroll, including source deductions and year-end filings (T4, T4A, T5).
• Assist with compiling and organizing information and schedules to support the preparation of personal (T1) and corporate (T2) tax returns.
• Prepare and file GST/HST, PST, and WSIB returns accurately and within strict government deadlines.
• Perform bank, credit card, and inter-company reconciliations including for complex corporate structures.
• Prepare trial balances and provide all necessary supporting documentation for year-end file preparation.
• Calculate fixed assets and depreciation.
• Maintain general ledgers and prepare financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements.
• Post journal entries and reconcile accounts to ensure the absolute accuracy of financial data.
• Train and provide technical guidance to junior staff.
