Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), located at National Historical Parks, West Hawai‘i, on the Island of Hawai‘i. Primary duty station is located at Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park (KAHO). Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $5,286.68 - $5,498.84/Mon.
DUTIES: Plans, prioritizes, implements field projects and works alongside field staff to protect and restore ecosystems through detection, removal and protection from feral goats from four West Hawai‘i parks: Pu‘uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park (PUHO), Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park (KAHO), Pu‘ukohola National Historic Site (PUHE) and Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail (ALKA, Kauleoli property, South Kona). Keeps detailed records on work progress and areas managed. Leads, supervises, and assigns work to field staff. Assures all required staff training is obtained, and personal protective equipment (PPE) is purchased and used for the specific tasks (e.g., helicopter usage and feral animal control). Conducts Field monitoring, surveys and characterizes feral goat herds in each park, e.g. population size, sex ratios, daily behaviors. Gathers information on approximate number, bedding and foraging habits, age/sex ratios, existing goat reduction and prevention measures at each park. Builds and improves goat traps and transfers goats to permitted partners. Develops, implements, and manages fencing and ungulate control and builds rapid response capacity. Installs, inspects and repairs fences. Drives to field sites via paved and unpaved roads. Records, manages, and analyzes field data using conventional means. Prepares summary of goat population observations, communication, trapping results, completed field tasks and goat management recommendations. Completes three-month, six-month, and year-end reports, and data summaries, as needed. Prepares and completes administrative paperwork, such as purchase orders, reimbursements, and travel paperwork by the prescribed deadlines.

Company Profile:
<b> PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: </b>
<b>EDUCATION:</b> Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Biological Sciences, Resource Management, Planning, or related field.
<b>EXPERIENCE:</b> Three to five (3-5) years of project management experience involving planning, scheduling, internal/external relations, and administration. Experience must also include at least one (1) year of field activities relating to natural resources management, and one to two (1-2) years of supervisory or leadership experience. Experience must be well-documented (include dates and hours per week) and paid employment. (Bachelor’s Degree in a Biological Science Resource Management, Planning or related field may substitute for two (2) years of experience.)
<b>KNOWLEDGE:</b> Working knowledge of watershed threats. Familiar with fencing techniques and ungulate control issues. Knowledge of laws, rules and polices involved with watershed management and their implications for watershed partners.
