Job Title: AV Support Technologist

Summary:

Responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of audiovisual equipment for meetings, presentations, live events, conferences, performances, and other productions. Provides end-to-end technical support to ensure reliable audio, video, lighting, presentation, and streaming systems before, during, and after events.

Key Responsibilities

Set up, test, configure, operate, and dismantle audio, video, lighting, presentation, and streaming equipment.
Deploy equipment such as microphones, speakers, cameras, projectors, displays, screens, video switchers, lighting systems, and related AV technology.
Operate mixing consoles, video switchers, presentation systems, lighting controls, and streaming equipment during live events.
Monitor audio and video feeds in real time and make adjustments to maintain consistent quality.
Quickly identify, diagnose, and resolve technical issues with AV hardware, software, cabling, connectivity, and signal flow.
Perform routine testing, preventative maintenance, inspections, and basic repairs on audiovisual equipment.
Conduct venue walkthroughs and technical assessments to determine equipment, staging, layout, power, and connectivity requirements.
Communicate with clients, event organizers, presenters, and production teams to understand technical requirements and provide appropriate AV solutions.
Recommend suitable equipment and technical configurations based on event requirements, venue conditions, and audience needs.
Manage equipment check-in and check-out, inventory records, damaged equipment reports, repairs, and storage.
Monitor supplies such as batteries, cables, adapters, and other production consumables to ensure equipment is ready for scheduled events.
Assist with presentation technology, video conferencing, computer systems, live streaming, and content playback when required.
Work independently and collaboratively with technical and event teams to deliver successful productions.
Maintain a safe, organized, and professional technical workspace.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications

Proficiency in operating and maintaining professional audio, video, lighting, presentation, and streaming systems.
Strong understanding of AV signal flow, cabling, connectivity, and system configuration.
Knowledge of video switching, projection, displays, cameras, microphones, mixing consoles, and lighting systems.
Familiarity with live streaming, video conferencing, and IP-based AV technologies.
Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent attention to detail and technical accuracy.
Clear communication and strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to live-event technical issues.
Ability to work independently and as part of a technical or production team.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple technical tasks and event requirements.
Education and Experience

Associate degree, diploma, or equivalent technical training in Audiovisual Technology, Media Production, Broadcasting, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Four (4) years of relevant audiovisual, event production, technical support, broadcasting, or related experience.
Equivalent vocational training, industry certifications, apprenticeships, or relevant professional experience may be considered in place of formal education.
Experience supporting live events, conferences, presentations, performances, meetings, or production environments.
Industry certifications such as CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) or other relevant AV certifications are advantageous.
Experience with professional AV equipment, presentation technology, computer systems, video conferencing, and streaming platforms is preferred.
Career Progression

Entry-level roles may include AV Technician, Junior AV Technician, or Production Assistant.
Advancement opportunities may include Senior AV Technician, AV Engineer, Video Engineer, or Technical Lead.
With additional experience, opportunities may progress into AV System Design, Broadcast Engineering, Technical Management, Event Production Management, or Project Management roles.
