Job Description:
The Associate Director of Development, Regional Philanthropy (ADOD) is works as part of Development to promote university fundraising priorities and image to alumni, parents, and friends of the university.

This field-oriented position requires frequent travel and direct contact with donors and donor prospects. The ADOD works collaboratively with colleagues throughout development and across the university to identify new prospects and strategically cultivate alumni, parents, and friends. The ADOD is responsible for meeting fundraising goals as they relate to the strategic needs of the university and the assigned unit(s), priority, or region(s). Productivity will be measured through the growth of individual performance and regional team commitments.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Regional Philanthropy Programs, this position is responsible in supporting key priorities, which could include, but are not limited to student success, financial aid and scholarships, academic programs, and capital projects by raising gifts from alumni, friends, and parent prospects rated $25,000 - $99,999. Occasional work with prospects rated $100,000 - $999,999 is possible depending upon donor interest but is not a focus of the position.

Critical to the success of the ADOD will be the ability to effectively collaborate with fellow fundraisers, central development programs (i.e., Annual Philanthropy, Donor Relations and Advancement Communications, as well as other fundraising leaders in academic schools, Intercollegiate Athletics, the Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact (Knight Campus), The Ballmer Institute for Children’s Behavioral Health (Ballmer Institute), and Principal Gifts.

Travel within the assigned region as well as to other cities in other states up to 75% of the time is an essential expectation of this position.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
• Two years of professional or volunteer experience in development or fundraising OR three years’ experience in a closely related field such as corporate sales.

Professional Competencies
• Working with donors and prospects: Ability to identify, cultivate, and solicit donors and prospects and build relationships with key constituents connected with the university. Ability to initiate gift planning conversations and build relationships with volunteers.
• Portfolio management and systems: Ability to develop strategies for reaching and engaging with prospects and regularly use Advance donor database and other tools to find and update donor information.
• Professionalism and citizenship: Ability to establish collaborative working relationships with fundraising colleagues and support staff and maintain professionalism when working with others.
• Institutional navigation and industry knowledge: Ability to make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the interests of prospective donors to specific university needs; ability to maintain core campus relationships and familiarity with industry best practices in major giving.
• Strategic planning: Ability to match pipeline strength, donor interests, and philanthropic priorities in strategic planning; ability to articulate how one’s individual initiatives and goals fit into programmatic direction and use unit business plans to address questions about direction and priorities.
• Ability to interact, communicate, and work effectively with individuals, recognizing and respecting the many and varied identities of each person.
• Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
