Job Description:
The Jammery Restaurant is seeking a qualified Assistant Kitchen Manager to oversee back-of-house operations and support overall restaurant management.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise, train, and schedule kitchen staff; conduct performance evaluations
• Oversee daily food preparation, presentation standards, and quality control
• Manage food inventory, purchasing, and cost control to maintain profitability targets
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations
• Develop and update kitchen procedures and menu standards in collaboration with ownership
• Conduct pre-shift meetings and lead kitchen team in the absence of senior management
• Coordinate with front-of-house management to ensure seamless service delivery
• Maintain kitchen equipment and ensure cleanliness standards are upheld

Job Requirements:
• Post-secondary education in culinary arts or hospitality management or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 3 years of combined culinary and kitchen management experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management capacity
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in food costing, inventory management, and labour cost control
• Proven ability to function simultaneously as a working kitchen manager and hands-on culinary operator in a small to mid-size food service environment
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a breakfast or brunch kitchen environment
• Valid BC Food Safe Level 1 certificate or equivalent Canadian food safety certification (required before start date)
• Experience recruiting, training, scheduling, and evaluating kitchen staff
• Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to lead kitchen operations independently
• Experience developing or updating menu items and maintaining presentation standards
Assets (not required):
• Formal culinary training or equivalent professional cooking program
• Experience with kitchen budgeting and financial reporting
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office or equivalent scheduling/inventory software
• Experience in a full-service restaurant environment
