Responsibilities
Tasks
• Operate and control the screed on asphalt paving equipment to ensure the proper placement, grade, depth, slope, and smoothness of asphalt materials.
• Set up, adjust, and monitor screed controls according to project specifications, paving plans, and site conditions.
• Work closely with the asphalt paving crew, paver operator, foreman, and grade personnel to maintain consistent paving operations.
• Monitor the flow and temperature of hot-mix asphalt and make adjustments to achieve proper mat thickness and uniformity.
• Check the finished asphalt surface for smoothness, proper depth, grade, and quality during paving operations.
• Assist with the setup, operation, cleaning, lubrication, and routine maintenance of the asphalt paver and screed equipment.
• Identify and correct irregularities in the asphalt mat, including uneven thickness, segregation, roughness, and improper slope.
• Follow grade stakes, string lines, laser guidance, survey information, and other paving indicators to maintain required elevations and grades.
• Communicate with crew members using hand signals and other communication methods to coordinate safe and efficient paving operations.
• Perform daily inspections of the paver and screed components and report mechanical or operational issues to the supervisor.
• Follow all workplace health and safety regulations and and company policies.
• Assist with other asphalt paving and construction duties as required by the project supervisor or foreman.
