Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Accounting Supervisor to join our team. The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensure accuracy in financial reporting, and support compliance with accounting standards and Canadian tax regulations. This role is key to maintaining the high level of professionalism and client service for which our firm is known.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist the business owner (CPA) in developing and implementing firm policies, procedures, and best practices to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
• Supervise accounting technicians by coordinating daily workflow, assigning tasks, establishing work priorities, and ensuring all deadlines are consistently met.
• Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate accounting technicians, providing guidance in tax preparation, accounting procedures, government program reporting requirements, client communication, and use of accounting software (VisualTax and TaxDome).
• Oversee the preparation, review, and finalization of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
• Review and approve journal entries, adjusting entries, account reconciliations, and supporting working papers prepared by accounting technicians to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
• Supervise the preparation and review of personal tax (T1) returns, including complex cases involving foreign income, foreign assets, rental income, capital gains, self-employment income, non-resident tax, and new immigrant filings.
• Supervise the preparation and review of corporate tax (T2) returns and GST/HST filings, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
• Supervise payroll processing, including payroll calculations, CPP/EI remittances, monthly reconciliations, and year-end slips (T4, T4A and T5).
• Oversee SR&ED tax credit claims and provide guidance on related government program reporting requirements.
• Train accounting technicians and provide guidance to clients on CRA audits, reviews, inquiries, and information requests.
• Conduct quality control reviews on all tax filings, financial records, and client files to maintain accuracy, consistency, and CRA compliance.

Terms of Employment: Full-time, Permanent
Wage: $38.34 per hour (equivalent to $64,800 per year)
Regular Working Hours: 32.5 hours per week; overtime may be required during tax season

Benefits Package: 2 weeks of paid vacation annually or 4% of salary in lieu of vacation

• Minimum college diploma in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field

Work Experience:
• Minimum of 2 years of professional accounting experience, including preparation and review of financial statements, journal entries, adjusting entries, and account reconciliations.
• Hands-on experience with personal (T1) tax filings and compliance, including complex cases involving foreign income, foreign assets, rental income, capital gains, self-employment income, non-resident taxation, and new immigrant filings.
• Practical experience with corporate (T2) tax filings, GST/HST filings, payroll processing (including CPP/EI remittances), year-end reporting (T4, T4A, T5), and SR&ED tax credit claim preparation.

Skills Requirements:
• Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting principles, taxation rules, and reporting requirements for both individuals and corporations.
• Proficiency with accounting software (VisualTax and TaxDome) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to review, verify, and ensure accuracy of financial information prepared by others.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for supervising staff, mentoring team members, and interacting with clients professionally.
