Works as part of a team operating a lock and dam on the Upper Mississippi River. Worked as part of a two-person team during lockage's. Handled bow or stern lines, walked lines to proper locations along wall and snubed lines to assist pilot in maneuvering craft into position. Secured towlines to lock wall as required. Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:
Master Tender Operator. Currently possess Apprentice Mate/Steersman upon Western Rivers as well as 200 ton Master upon Western Rivers. I have operated a tender in the making and breaking up of floating pipelines, maneuvering anchor barge, placing the dredge into the cut, placing dredge out of cut to pass commercial traffic, shuffling of various barges, movement of line anchors, and moving floating plant from one jobsite to another. Have operated outboard motorboat in a safe manner carrying crew, supplies, and passengers from bank to the job site.

I have knowledge of the "Rules of the Road" in the marine industry and know the proper use and display of lights, horns, whistles, and signs necessary on navigation routes and passage through lock and dams. I have safely lead and supervised crew members while passing through lock and dams, when underway in tow travelling to different job sites, and while performing daily duties while dredging.

Deckhand. I have worked on many multi-purpose floating plant units consisting of pipeline dredging, derrick boats, tugs, and attendant plant engaged in maintenance dredging on the Upper Mississippi, Illinois, and Kaskaskia Rivers. Handled many sizes of rope, lines, and steel towing cables while making up or breaking of tows. Prepared light and rigging. Connected, disconnected, repaired and replaced pipelines. Safely operated winches, powered hoists, diesel engines, and generators. Assisted in running cable from cutter head to swing anchors and even moving of swing anchors. Removed obstructions from the cutter head pump and pipelines. Used tools such as hammers, wrenches, drills, saws, cutting torches, and welders. Provide technical direction and assists in accomplishing difficult, new, or substantially changed work steps, processes, methods, procedures and operational sequences. Inspects completed work for quality and work order/assignment requirements

Engineering Equipment Operator. I have operated a one cubic yard crawler type front-end loader, Caterpillar 730, 740B, and Volvo A30 Articulating Dump Trucks, Case Steiger 400 and 350 tractors, Caterpillar 320B, 324E, 325D, 329E, 330B, 330C, and Komatsu 200 excavators, Caterpillar 962H and Case 821C Loaders, Caterpillar D-4, D-5, D-6, D-7, D-8, and John Deere 950J and 850J Bulldozers to unload, place, move, set up, and break down discharge pipe for disposal sites. To move dredged material in the disposal area so as to maximize the efficiency of dredging operations and site disposal capacity. Also to maintain slope and grade of varying degrees and angles. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment as needed and in accordance with maintenance schedules. Changing lights, replacing winch wires, and tightening of tracks as needed available for disposal of dredge spoil. Performs other preventive maintenance such as checking oil and water, batteries, gauges, and condition of tracks. Inspects and documents all equipment assigned. Notifies supervisor of any mechanical failures, safety defects, and recommending repairs required.

Work is performed inside and outside with the preponderance of time exposed to heat, cold, rain and snow. Assists in deck operations to include safely fastening and mooring lines and cables, securing tows and assembly/disassembly of pipeline. Assists with transport of supplies/stores onto the dredge fleet. Cleans decks. Prepares surfaces for painting by chipping, scaling, and removing old paint. Applies prime and finish coats to interior and exterior surfaces of all dredge plant and equipment. Performs minor repairs to plant equipment such as installing new cables and swing anchors. Repairing or replacing pontoon walkways and pipe gaskets. Assists in changing cutter heads and clamshell buckets. Maintains a clean and organized work area free of safety hazards. My current official duty station is the Dredge Goetz, wherever it is located.
