Speech Language Pathologist – Safety and At Risk Teams (Full Time) 2016–Present
Provide accurate diagnosis and treatment to a wide range of conditions including dysphagia, tracheostomy, aphasia, apraxia, cognitive impairment, neurological impairment, traumatic brain injury (TBI), head and neck cancer, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), muscular dystrophy, and myasthenia gravis.
Aid respiratory therapist in placing passy muir valve (PMV) speaking valves in line and on tracheostomy collar for tracheostomy patients to restore communication and maximize swallow function.
Render intensive dysphagia rehabilitation including treatment with use of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES).
Assist contracted speech language pathologists (SLPs) in the completion of fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) to determine least restrictive diet.
Perform a broad range of responsibilities including the following:
–Timely completion of billing and documentation concerning Medicare and Medicaid
–Organization and maintenance of filing system with confidential documents
–Coordination with other healthcare providers which include physicians and nurse practitioners to provide continuity of patient care
–Planning and implementation of in-service training to staff members regarding best practice for dysphagia, aphasia, dementia, and stroke to ensure delivery of quality patient care
Organize and participate in care plan meetings to discuss discharge plan and goal attainment progress with staff members.
Deliver health education to patients and family members on diagnosis, safety precautions, and therapeutic treatments.
Maintain active involvement in various organizational training regarding the use of augmentative communication devices specifically Tobii devices including equipment with eye gaze capability to promote independence for home/community living.
Conduct screenings to prevent decline while maintaining current levels of function.
Significantly reduce risk for medical decline as well as decrease the number of patient consuming thickened liquids to less than 20% by optimizing nutrition and hydration.
