Objective:
MICHAEL JAMES CAREW
2697 Marilee Lane Houston, TX 77057
Mobile: (281) 781-3859
E-Mail: michaelcarew@hotmail.com

I was severely injured in a mortar attack in the Persian Gulf War. Although I was bleeding badly and could barely move, I dragged myself about 60 meters to safety. I'm fully recovered, but if I can do that, I can complete any task you put before me. I assure you, if you hire me, the only attitude you will get from me is, "Don't make excuses, make it happen."

While in the US Army, I received extensive training and real time experience in leadership roles. I then worked for the US Department of Veteran Affairs where I gained experience in record keeping, working with patients, and time schedules. I then attended college and earned exceptional grades in all fields of study with a GPA of 3.95, graduating Summa Cum Laude. I have an AA degree with heavy emphasis in English and history, as well as a Human Resource Certification at NCED. Recent examples of my work include my position in Human Resources with the US Postal Service as a Labor/Employee Relations Specialist.

These are some of the functions I performed:

Resolved complex district-wide labor relations and equal employment opportunity (EEO) problems affecting arbitration, discipline, grievances, contract administration, and labor relations practices and procedures.
Performed the more complex labor relations projects related to grievance processing, advocacy, agreement implementation, arbitration, contract analysis and interpretation, collective bargaining appeals, and labor relations administration.
Gave advice, insured compliance, and provided representation with complex issues with outside entities in various forums and hearings such as OWCP, DOL, DOJ, OIG, ADR, FLSA, OSHA, FMLA, HIPAA, MSPB, EEO, ADA, NLRB, TWC, and Arbitration.
I have 11 years experience with various human resource issues such as light duty, limited duty, overtime, attendance, personnel selections, scheduling, business planning, finance, contract negotiations, contract interpretation, sexual harassment, violence, drugs, alcohol, theft, embezzlement, disrespect, improper conduct, tardiness, injury compensation, compliance, safety, work performance, hiring practices, debts, altercations, union issues, etc.
Ability to collect, integrate, and analyze data in support of grievance and arbitration cases and contract negotiation.
Conducted audits to assess compliance with area and corporate policies and procedures.
Evaluated the need for and develop guidelines, instructions, and training materials on labor relations policies and procedures.
Communicated in writing to prepare position papers, correspondence, and informational materials on labor relations issues, policies, and procedures.
Communicated orally with union officials, labor law and other functional areas and to provide training and technical advice on labor relations issues, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge of the national agreements and national labor relations programs, policies, and issues at a level sufficient to advise local management.
Advised, communicated, and trained all levels of employees on, but not limited to, compensation, performance management, discipline and grievances, and employment law.

I am interested in interviewing with you or one of your associates. I can be reached on my cell at 281-781-3859 to arrange for an interview. Thank you for your time and consideration.
