Job Description:
- Perform a wide range of inspections and preventative maintenance work on traffic signals, controllers, and related equipment; replace defective equipment; test electrical and electronic equipment including traffic signal heads, controllers, auxiliary equipment and other systems to ensure that they operate as intended; perform adjustments or repairs to solve problems.
- Respond to knockdowns and/or malfunctions of traffic signal equipment; repair and replace, modify and install traffic signal equipment including signal heads, poles, controllers, lights, circuitry, switches, fuses, timers and cabinet parts; make field repairs of traffic signal controls and auxiliary equipment; perform electrical system wiring and installations; locate conduit, cables and other underground devices to perform work; replace lamps; investigate complaints and reports of malfunctions.
- Check intersections for proper signal operations and operate specialized computer programs to make signal timing changes as directed, ensuring that proper timing is restored after repairs are made; install or upgrade signal equipment based on engineering drawings; consult with the Traffic Engineer or factory representatives to identify and resolve technical problems; may reconstruct and refurbish traffic signal equipment or defective electrical equipment in the shop using appropriate tools and methods; inspect and test equipment installed by contractors.
- Install, inspect, maintain, and repair the traffic signal communications system.
- Skillfully and safely operate a truck, signal maintenance vehicle, and all tools associated with work.
- May assist in ordering supplies and equipment for work projects.
- May assist in training and directing the Traffic Technician position during signal operations and maintenance work activities.
- May assist with inspecting traffic signal projects and contracts.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- A State of Michigan electrical journeyman's license is required at the time of assuming the position.
- Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Michigan and a valid CDL Class B License or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
- Must be able to work in the United States without organizational sponsorship, both now and in the future.
