Job Description:
Are you looking for a fun experience getting to work outside, meet new people, and ride horses? River Valley Ranch is looking for seasonal help 7 days a week including holidays May through October and weekends in November and December. River Valley Ranch is located between Carver and Jordan, MN and offers guided trail rides on a 400 acre horse ranch next to the Minnesota River with beautiful trails in the bluffs and river valley.
We are looking for qualified individuals interested in becoming trail guides that are self motivated, have a strong work ethic, and possess a bit of grit. This work requires people that love working with horses and people. The work is almost exclusively outdoors in the beauty of nature, but when the sun is shining in the summer we get hot, when it rains we get wet, when it is windy - well you get the idea. This is a working horse ranch so odd jobs will arise that we all pitch in and help with. Be able and willing to work on various tasks as needed when not taking out trail rides. Scheduling is flexible.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Work outside in all types of weather - sun, rain, snow, heat and cold
Catching, grooming, preparing, bridling and saddling up to 50 horses
Leading trail rides with a focus on ensuring guest safety at all times
Assist with customer mounting and dismounting safely
Interacting with customers before, during, and after the ride
Providing basic tips and skills on horsemanship to customers
Assist with care for horses and identifying injuries or soundness issues
Assist in the care and maintenance of equipment such as halters, bridles, pads/blankets, and saddles
Required Key Skills:
Basic horsemanship knowledge (behavior, safety, and control) on and off the horse
Effective communication, safety and customer service skills
Ability to catch, halter, saddle, bridle and ride horses
Ability to get on and off a horse from the ground with ease and work from the saddle and/or the ground for up to 9 hours a day
Basic horse care knowledge (Identify a limp or obvious injury)
Work with others in a team environment
