Job Description:

The Sr. Ophthalmic Photographer performs fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, ICG angiography, external and slit lamp photography, digital photography, and angiography reliably, skillfully, and consistently.

Takes images of ophthalmic patients using specialized equipment such as ocular fundus imaging systems and optical coherence tomography. Processes and transfers images via computer systems. Monitors patient's gaze through lens and camera to ensure that patient complies with instructions to obtain desired results. Selects camera filters to modify light. Injects patient with contrast medium and photographs fluorescent dye as it flows through retina or iris vessels to obtain angiogram of the eye. Identifies the anatomy of the ocular fundus and the structures through which the fundus is imaged. Screens and interviews patients and documents ocular and medical histories and demographic data. Performs a variety of routine tests using ophthalmic instruments that provide diagnostic information, such as visual acuity, intraocular pressures, basic motility, and visual fields. Assists physicians during diagnostic and minor surgical procedures, including instrumentation, sterile preparations, and documentation. Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic tests and procedures. Administers topical medications or diagnostic drugs as required by the provider. Assists physicians with patient education pertaining to the treatments prescribed. Acts as the "go to" person for physicians and vendors regarding ophthalmic photography needs. Supervises and directs ophthalmic photographers, staff, and trainees. Translates revised or new imaging protocols into daily operations and communicates revisions or updates to assigned staff. Oversees quality assurance of the photography unit and addresses deficiencies in a timely and constructive manner. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
