About This Position

The Department of Cell Biology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Research Associate 1. This position will be responsible for performing a variety of experiments in a research laboratory with a focus on the role of several important interferon induced genes that influence inflammatory diseases and tumorigenesis. Projects include evaluating novel Interferon -dependent adjuvants for the immunotherapeutic treatment of cancer as well as new vaccine concepts to prevent various cancers and infectious diseases. The Sr. Research Associate 1 will be in charge of maintaining a very large Mice inventory, that includes many transgenic and other mouse models including cancer, inflammation, viral infections and Alzheimer's diseases. Will receive general supervision from the principal investigator of the laboratory.

The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Supports research activities at the University and works under the direction of a principal investigator, program director, or designee of the principal investigator or program director.

  • Works under direct supervision, but is expected to carry out research duties with creativity and latitude.

  • Prepares common buffers and reagents for daily use in the laboratory.

  • Maintains Mouse Colonies: including Transgenic Mice.

  • Observes animals on a daily basis to assess health, environmental conditions, and social environment; monitors animals for impact of research and advises team members.

  • Supports all aspects of colony management: maintains cage cards, animal histories, and other records as required. Maintains database records. Responsible for breeding of Mice and all aspects related to Mice husbandry.

  • Collects and analyzes data as requested, including tail biopsies for genotyping of Mice.

  • Maintains appropriate databases. Ensures accurate written and computerized mice records.

  • Maintains up to date with subject related and professional issues, in particular, developments in the specific subject area.

  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in a life science field of study. Proficiency with basic computer programs, including Mouse colony management systems. Ability to convey information effectively, to work independently, and to follow verbal and written instructions. Strong analytical skills are required. Must possess advanced knowledge and be capable of exercising considerable latitude for independent judgment. Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
