Job Description:


The Senior Manager, Payroll provides leadership and oversight to ensure complete, accurate, and efficient payroll processing to include reporting to internal and external systems while adhering to University policy, banking regulations, and multiple governmental agency laws and regulations.


1. Manages the audit review process of all payroll information from time tracking and payroll system(s) for all pay periods and payroll related batches (earnings, deductions, time off, etc.) to ensure accuracy of payroll processing, compliance with all payroll regulations and University policies, and storage of proper documentation.
2. Develops, implements, and monitors internal controls and KPIs to track and ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of payroll processing and services provided, and compliance with University policies and procedures.
3. Completes settlement of payroll batches for transmission to the bank and check printing.
4. Participates in strategic planning related to payroll operations to identify process improvements and increase efficiency.
5. Collaborates with other Payroll leadership to develop new payroll procedures and systems designed to maximize the operating efficiency of the department and leverage payroll system functionality.
6. Conducts system testing for configuration changes directly related to payroll operations.
7. Oversees the processing of payroll deductions, garnishments, and resolution of payroll issues.
8. Interprets company policies and government regulations to properly impact payroll procedures and system processes
9. Remains current on new legislation and regulatory ruling impact payroll and provide guidance on various federal, state, and local legislation
10. Ensures accurate compliance with FLSA and state wage requirements
11. Responds appropriately to inquiries from all levels on a timely basis
12. Establish and continuously assess the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensure employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Bachelor's Degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:



Minimum 6 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Workday Payroll experience, preferred

Certification and Licensing:

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA), preferred
