The Office of Research Administration (ORA) has an exciting job opportunity for a Manager, Sponsored Programs at the Rosensteil School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) Campus.

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Manager, Sponsored Programs supports the research mission of the University of Miami and the goals of the Office of Research Administration (ORA). The Manager is an integral partner in submitting proposals to extramural sponsors for research, clinical trials, training, instructional and other sponsored activities and creates, reviews, and analyzes complex sponsored projects. The Manager is part of the sponsored programs administration team that manages service and provides guidance and direction to specific Rosensteil School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) departments, and Centers/Institutes on all pre-award and post-award administration functions from the proposal submission to after awards are created and award close-out. Works closely in a team environment to assure compliance with sponsor requirements while providing excellent service to principle investigators, researchers and administrators.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS



  • Assists in overseeing all elements of pre-award and post-award activity including proposal preparation/submission and responsibility for the fiscal administration of all contracts and grants awarded by federal, state, and other sponsors for departments.

  • Responsible for proposal preparation and timely submissions and expenditure projections including salary allocations.

  • Monitors and approves grant budgets and expense activities including financial & non-financial reporting, award close outs, and final reporting to sponsors.

  • Responsible for the monitoring of effort certifications for faculty and staff paid on research grants.

  • Monitors internal monitoring reports monthly to ensure compliance with federal guidelines.

  • Oversees, hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates specialists.

  • Monitors team performance relative to accuracy, timeliness, customer service and other related metrics.

  • Serves as the liaison between the faculty, academic departments and research centers, campus administrative units and a wide variety of federal, state, local and private funding agencies.

  • Ensures compliance with university, federal, state, and other agency regulations, policies, procedures, form and guidelines for the conduct of research.

  • Ensures high quality, efficient service to the research community, and provides assistance in the planning and implementation of innovative customer service initiatives.

  • Assists to resolve conflicts between Principal Investigators (PIs) and team members quickly and satisfactorily.

  • Assists with developing and implementing internal operating procedures and with development, modification, and instruction of research administration training for faculty and staff.

  • Maintains knowledge of current federal issues relating to grants and single audits of state, local government and non-profit organizations; interprets OMB (Office of Management and Budget) circulars for other agreements.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field required.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Sponsored Programs Administration or related field. University Research Administration experience preferred. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:



  • Demonstrated knowledge of Federal regulations related to Research Administration, including the Uniform Guidance, Cost Accounting Standards, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and major Federal funding agency guidelines.

  • Ability to train and lead a staff to new and changing Sponsored Programs initiatives, and to create an environment within the office which promotes staff involvement and continuing education.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated outstanding customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated management and professional experience and judgment to effectively serve faculty and sponsors while protecting, representing and advancing the University's best interests.

  • Ability to manage projects in a high volume, face paced environment.

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
