Purpose of Position

The Merger & Acquisition Associate will assist in furthering the company's North American business strategies through mergers and acquisitions. This will include supporting activities to identify opportunities and prospects, assisting with appraisals and valuing acquisition prospects, and getting formal approvals, organizing due diligence through closing and post-closing follow-up.

The Merger & Acquisition Associate will work closely with the Director of Mergers & Acquisitions, various business units, and interact cross functionally with finance, legal, human resources, insurance, tax, integration management and other departments as needed.

Primary or Key Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Support the Director of Mergers & Acquisitions and other team members in the execution of acquisitions, general market, industry and competitor analysis and preparation of various presentation materials.

  • Maintain and track the M&A pipeline through external research and proactive engagement with senior management in order to identify prospective targets for acquisition.

  • Identify and evaluate opportunities professionally and dispassionately demonstrating sound, independent business judgement.

  • Collaborate with business units and their teams on all aspects of building strong business cases to realize company objectives.

  • Significant emphasis on building robust financial valuation models reflecting a detailed business case in order to assess the value creation potential of acquisition, venture or divestment proposals.

  • Assist in putting forward high quality and well considered investment proposals for formal approval by the Director, Mergers & Acquisitions and the Investment Committee.

  • Assist in coordinating due-diligence involving all relevant business managers and functional experts.

  • Management of external consultants as needed.

  • Review transaction documentation and disclosure schedules.

  • Track and follow up post-closing on all deferred payments.

  • Perform thorough post-acquisition reviews evaluating the success of each transaction with an emphasis on taking best practices and lessons learned forward.


  • Have business experience in a commercial setting.

  • Able to gather and make sense of large amounts of information and apply it to make business and customer-focused decisions.

  • Possess strong verbal and written English communication skills to communicate effectively and professionally at all times.

  • Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

  • Able to thrive under pressure and work effectively as a team member to achieve tight deadlines.

  • Able to work long hours and weekends when needed.

  • Be prepared to undertake some travel - potentially including international - as required.

  • Possess advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 2007 or later, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Advanced spreadsheet skills are essential.

  • Have knowledge of Google Suite and associated programs frequently used at Rentokil North America.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time position. The Merger & Acquisition Associate may report to an office, but some overnight travel throughout North America sites in the USA and Canada may be required.

Work Schedule: This job will have regular office hours but will frequently have extended hours due to time-sensitive deadlines and time frames, as well as travel requirements. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Evening and weekend work, as well as working on holidays will be required as job duties demand.
