Job Description:

The Director, Application Development is responsible for advancing GMAC's services-based architecture, adopting key commercial platforms, and developing brand worthy custom applications and experiences. The Director manages and maintains GMAC's current application portfolio, serves as the GMAC lead for application design and development processes and, develops new applications and systems meeting the needs of internal and external constituents. The Director leads the adoption of relevant, new technologies and cloud-centric approaches while optimizing team performance for productivity and quality. Areas of specific interest are sustained Agile adoption, DevOps, and Continuous Integration (CI/CD).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Application Development team, to include direct staff, onsite contractors, and offshore development partners; Manage and optimize the mix of employees and external consultants.

  • Align development team structure to work streams and optimize execution for productivity and quality.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization, understanding their plans and actively defining solutions in collaboration with technology team peers.

  • Manage the GMAC application portfolio, leading solution delivery for new projects, and prioritizing and scheduling system changes, releases and support requests.

  • Collaborate with partners inside IT on team priorities and projects (i.e., Infrastructure/Operations, Project Management, and Data Management).

  • Lay-out the long-term vision for GMAC's application architecture and the Application Development team, ensuring it is aligned with organizational objectives and long-term strategy.

  • Plan and manage all long and short-term activities and operations of the function within the department.

  • Other responsibilities and duties, as assigned.​

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in information technology or related field.

  • 6 years' experience with hands-on systems design and architecture, implementation and support; Or equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience.

  • 6 years' experience managing internal and/or external (offshore) technology teams.

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft technologies and frameworks (.Net (C#), SQL, etc.) required, with practical hands-on software development experience in a Microsoft environment.

  • Experience with Azure PaaS, Sitecore and decoupled CMS, SaaS platforms, cloud-native technologies, micro-services, and SOA (service-oriented architecture) environments.

  • Demonstrated experience managing internal and external integrations.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve results, to include identifying and working with key stakeholders.

  • Must be forward-thinking, outcome-oriented and eager to learn new approaches.

  • Must be highly accountable.

  • Experience leveraging agile process for rapid development.

  • Experience with DevOps CI/CD, containerization, application performance monitoring, and test automation.

  • Ability to make strategic decisions that have a direct impact on daily operations of the department.

  • Ability to guide others in resolving complex issues of significance to the organization.

  • Superior analytical skills and ability to prioritize objectives.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
