Your Opportunity

The Senior Distribution Designer is responsible for all aspects of distribution design execution including providing leadership and coaching with emphasis on, quality review, progress tracking, and project delivery. This position will be responsible for ensuring that an assigned design team complies with Stantec Consulting Ltd. Engineering Practices Policy and will be significantly involved in technical training of team members. The Senior Distribution Designer will make critical contributions by leading the daily operations of the team and overall program quality. This is a complex job requiring strong judgment, exceptional communication skills and a thorough understanding of distribution design requirements.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing all design projects, within a team of distribution designers, including those with high complexity.

  • Providing leadership, prioritization and direction for the Design team.

  • Opportunity to provide training, coaching, and developing other designers

  • Monitoring safety, workflow, team dynamics and work practices.

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clients and customers

  • Participating in recruitment of Design team including interviewing candidates.

  • Providing input for evaluation of individual team members performance and recommend areas for development.

  • Providing coverage as required for other Senior Designers

  • Understand and Apply all applicable industry and client standards for design and engineering.

  • Perform project quality checks, project quality audits, and build lessons learned documentation and improvement plans

  • Project assignment to design team

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Effective Interpersonal Skills - Strong Written and Verbal skills are a must to ensure clear communication between team members, clients, contractors, and suppliers.

  • Minimum of diploma in electrical technology or bachelors degreed in engineering(power system preferred)

  • Minimum of 6 years of direct detail design experience in Distribution for Utilities in North America.

  • Able to work effectively both independently under minimal supervision, and as a member of a team.

  • Strong customer service focus supported by solid time management and prioritization skills

  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to set priorities, organize work and complete work within given timelines.

  • Systematic approach to problem solving.

  • Ability to adapt to ongoing changes.

  • Demonstrated negotiating skills.

  • Excellent Personal Computing Skills, including Microsoft Office.

  • Valid Driver's License.

  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in the domain of distribution design including applied knowledge of codes, regulations and distribution standards, policies and procedures

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
