Job Description:

Facilities Building Engineer

This position reports to the Director of Facilities with additional direction from Facilities Property Managers. This person is responsible to manage and operate the day to day operations of the corporate office buildings and surrounding campus. This position is a hands-on technical position with some administrative duties. This position requires travel to the CT and MA markets as needed. This position will require both inside and outside work, ability to work at heights up to 30 feet, as well as the ability to work in inclement weather as needed.


  • Requests supplies and materials as needed

  • Secures three competitive bids for all work and contracts in excess of $1000

  • Monitors and assists with the implementation of annual budget programs for R&M, capital projects, contracts and supplies

  • Generator load tests

  • Elevator certificates

  • Manage building maintenance contracts


  • Changes lights, switches, covers, receptacles and reprograms lighting controls as needed

  • Changes exit light transformers, batteries, etc.

  • Able to use Fluke multi-meter and trouble shoot minor electrical issue


  • Repair/replace faucets and valves, clean out drains, repairs toilets, partitions and restroom accessories

  • Troubleshoot water heaters and replace as needed


  • Oversees cleaning company

  • Manages trash and recycling services

  • Responds to emergency spills as needed

  • Cleans/organizes mechanical rooms, 2nd floor and areas not serviced by cleaning company as needed

  • Picks up trash and cigarette butts outside and around building as needed


  • Checks EMS readings, monitor cooling tower, boilers and heat pumps

  • Conducts daily cooling tower, hydronic loop and boiler readings and inspections.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs HP's, RTU,s electric heaters, rooftop exhaust fans, etc.

  • Conducts preventative maintenance on all HVAC equipment (grease bearings, change filters, etc.)

  • Operates and programs computer BAS

General Maintenance

  • Repairs/replaces locks, hinges and latches

  • Replaces ceiling tiles as need

  • Performs minor carpentry work with some sheetrock repair and painting

Snow Removal and Landscaping

  • Oversees snow removal and landscaping services

  • Programs and seasonally adjust irrigation system


  • Must be able to learn and be knowledgeable of building(s) fire panels and related equipment as well as security control systems

  • Follow OSHA principals and guidelines regarding workplace safety

Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge Windows and Microsoft Office software

  • Ability to communicate well with contractors, coworkers

  • Good working knowledge of all HVAC equipment and EMS

  • Good working knowledge of electrical and plumbing

  • Effectively communicate through phone and email

  • Work independently and in a team environment

  • Must possess valid driver's license and an excellent driving record

  • Knowledge of HVAC

  • Able to use hand and power tools

  • Able to lift 60LBs
