The Opportunity | Chemical Engineering Technician

Perform chemical inspections of plating lines per company, customer, and industry standard requirements. Testing requires the understanding and use of specialized test equipment in the lab, and the ability to operate the plating lines themselves. Work with vendors and other service providers to maintain the lab testing equipment, like salt spray and atomic absorption, within appropriate operating parameters. Review the marketplace for other or the latest test methods and make recommendations to the management team regarding capital investments. Maintain an active list of chemical inventory with make-up and expiration dates. Must understand the appropriate means for chemical disposal, and keep up to date with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding the management of all in-house chemicals. Works closely with the special processes engineer for the plating department to maintain the lines within the conditions required by customers and industry standards.

Your Challenge:

  • Maintains the appropriate chemical inventory for both the production plating lines, and testing materials for the chemical lab, including all certifications, and tracking of expiration dates.

  • Evaluation and approval of incoming chemical products to customer and industry standard specifications.

  • Capable of performing tests using the latest equipment, including atomic absorption, x-ray determination of plating thickness, waste treatment processes, porosity meter, scales, pipets, hot plates.

  • Capable of performing tests using the production equipment in the plating department.

  • Perform and/or test equipment calibrations.

  • Maintains all test results within plant software system.

  • Perform all required governmental regulatory inspections of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes.

  • Communication with production on chemical line test results to ensure production parts are processed within acceptable parameters. Including any troubleshooting assistance.

  • Provide assistance to the plant on an on call basis during emergency situations

  • Maintain a customer required package of tests and results that grades production operator capabilities

  • Ensures all posted documentation pertaining to plating procedures meet current customer and industry requirements.

  • Provide back-up support for Metallurgical Lab as needed.

  • Train and assess back-ups for this position and review and approve progress.

Your Expertise:

  • 5+ years of related experience.

  • High School diploma or equivalent; 2 year associates degree preferred.

  • Must possess demonstrated ability to interpret and understand MIL, Boeing, NADCAP, and other customer specifications for chemical compliance.

  • Computer skills, familiar with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Outlook (email & calendar), Local specific chemical management software, TRUCHEM
