Job Description:

Our Structural Design & Analysis team is a high performing group executing challenging tasks for structures and integration engineering support of the Space Launch System (SLS) including the Integrated Spacecraft and Payload Element (ISPE) and Stages Element. We are searching for highly qualified candidates to support the Structural Dynamics & Integration branch at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. This exciting work will serve as a critical step in sending humans to the Moon, Mars and beyond!

Working both independently and as part of an integrated, collaborative team, your responsibilities would include:

  • Perform structural dynamic analyses in support of the design and design verification of space flight vehicle systems.

  • Analyze complex element or vehicle features and apply principles and practices of structural analysis, or devise new approaches in problem solutions.

  • Independently plan, schedule and perform computations/analyses, prepare and make presentations and document results in technical reports.

  • Recommend or review test approaches to verify that objectives/requirements are met.

  • Review all results from assigned tasks and determine if outputs are complete, correct, integrated with project objectives, and adequately documented.

  • Follow existing processes and procedures and recommend process improvements where appropriate.

Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Aerospace Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university is required. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D. with a minimum 4 years of experience; Masters with at least 8 years of experience, or a BS with at least 10 years of experience.


  • A minimum of 10 years applicable experience or any equivalent combination of education/experience outlined above.

  • Basic understanding of classical vibrations and dynamics of structural systems using strength of materials and finite element based methods.

  • Modeling experience, particularly with finite element analysis (FEA) tools, in support of stress analysis, low-frequency dynamics, and/or high-frequency dynamics.

  • Excellent communication skills.


  • Experience with the application of the finite element method to perform random vibration, acoustic induced vibration, and/or coupled loads analyses is very desirable.

  • Experience performing high-frequency dynamics/vibration analysis.

  • Experience in dynamic testing and/or model correlation/verification.

  • Experience with PATRAN or FEMAP, NASTRAN, MATLAB, Python, VA One and/or Wave 6.

  • Familiarity with space flight vehicles.

  • Experience with data acquisition, signal processing, and statistics would be advantageous.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
