Job Description:
JOB ASSIGNMENT: Central Susquehanna LPN Career Center / Geisinger Medical Center Nursing Assistant Residency Program

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to the director of the Central Susquehanna LPN Career Center and in his or her absence to the to the WATCH Program Manager/CARES Leadership Coordinator.

JOB DEFINITION: The Practical Nursing Instructor works with LPN career center staff to plan, deliver, and participate in the evaluation of the practical nursing program curriculum. The instructor also supervises students in clinical, laboratory, and classroom settings.

The Nursing Assistant Educator implements, and cooperates in the evaluation of a Nursing Assistant Residency program at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) in Danville, PA. The Nursing Assistant Educator is a CSIU professional representative at GMC and promotes a regional Nursing and Healthcare Support Career Pathway.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Practical Nursing Instructor
1. Develop and implement course outlines, lesson plans, tests, and examinations to meet the academic and behavioral objectives of the practical nursing program.
2. Adapt instructional methods and materials to meet students’ needs and further the objectives of the program, keeping instructional material current.
3. Plan, implement, supervise and evaluate laboratory and clinical experiences with attention to content sequence and integration according to program curriculum.
4. Observe, evaluate, and document student performance and progress in classroom, laboratory and clinical settings.
5. Assist in review and revision of policies for selection and promotion of students.
6. Assist in selection of students and their orientation to program policies, goals, objectives, and performance expectations, including clinical and laboratory experiences.
7. Participate in ongoing review and revision of program policies, goals, objectives, and curriculum.
8. Maintain instructional expertise in all content areas of curriculum.
9. Serve as a professional liaison between program administration, students, and affiliating agencies and organizations, sharing educational objectives with appropriate personnel in cooperating agencies.
10. Maintain essential records pertinent to areas of instructional responsibilities.
11. Attend and contribute to regular faculty meetings and planned activities connected to the program.
12. Plan and implement activities to continual professional growth.
13. Report student absences daily.
14. Assist the director and other faculty members in the counseling and guidance of students as needed.
15. Maintain professional rapport with all members of the program’s faculty, students, and affiliating agencies.

Nursing Assistant Residency Instructor:
1. Plan, implement, supervise and evaluate lab experiences with attention to content sequence and integration according to GMC’s Nursing Assistant (NA) competency index.
2. Assist the Nursing Assistant Lead Educator in development, review and revisions to the NARP curriculum.
3. Adapt instructional methods/materials to the Nursing Assistant Residency curriculum to meet NA residents needs based on feedback from NA residents and GMC nurse educator staff.
4. Observe, evaluate and document NA resident performance and progress in classroom and lab setting.
5. Maintain instructional expertise in all content areas of curriculum.
6. Establish and convey to NA residents positive work attributes; such as, but not limited to, punctuality, attendance, appropriate attire, teamwork, civility, etc., while observing and individually documenting NA work qualities.
7. Assist in the development and implementation of an evaluation of the NA Residency Program.
8. Serve as a professional CSIU representative and liaison to GMC which requires a high level of communication, and close and continuous working relationship with the Nursing Assistant Educator Coordinator, WATCH Program Manager/CARES Leadership Coordinator and Director of the Central Susquehanna LPN Career Center.
9. Promote the regional Nursing and Healthcare Support career pathway with NA residents, GMC personnel and others.
10. Identify, encourage and assist NA residents who might be successful CSLPNCC or other post-secondary students to pursue application.
11. Identify, encourage and assist NA residents who may be eligible for, and benefit from CSIU and community services.
12. Serve as a mentor to NA residents.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Graduation from an approved school of professional nursing; a minimum of a Master’s Degree, preferably in nursing. Will consider a Bachelor’s degree with a commitment to complete a Master’s degree.
• Current registration as a professional nurse in Pennsylvania.
• Experience and skill in the practice of nursing; nursing experience involving direct patient care or teaching experience within 2 years of employment.
• Evidence of maintaining expertise in clinical and functional areas of responsibility.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with colleagues, co-workers, and community agency personnel.
• Positive attitude toward practical nursing and its relationship to others on the health care team.
• Ability to adapt to program changes for the improvement of the program curriculum and operation.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current, approved Act 34 (PA State Police), Act 151 (PA Child Abuse Registry) and Act 114-FBI Fingerprint clearances are required and must be renewed at appropriate, specific intervals pursuant to Act 153 of 2014 (revised Act 15 of 2015).
• Current, approved Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training certificate showing completion of a minimum of three (3) hours training every five (5) years.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS: 30 nursing-related CEU’s every two (2) years is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This job may require the occasional provision of bedside nursing care for adults, children, and infants, including bending (occasionally to the floor), lifting (up to 25 lbs), and reaching (e.g. across beds, to the top of an IV pole, etc.) It also required strength and stamina to carry materials and equipment as well as the ability to drive to clinical sites.

TIME REQUIREMENTS:
• This is a full time, exempt position following a 12-month, 250 days per year work schedule. Occasional evening and weekend scheduling may be necessary to accommodate student and program needs.
• Regular attendance at work is a requirement of this position; any and all absences must be approved by the immediate supervisor.
• Attendance at evening or weekend meetings and occasional overnight travel to seminars and workshops is required.

1. All property, including intellectual property, materials, equipment or actual products and services developed or accrued as part of the job duties and responsibilities listed above, is the property of the CSIU. It may not be used for personal profit or gain and will be relinquished to the CISU upon termination of employment from the CSIU.

The person employed in this position shall maintain confidentiality with regard to the personal and private information about clients and coworkers, programs and services and any other proprietary information accrued as a result of CSIU employment or as required by state or federal laws and regulations.
