About This Position

The Division of Environment and Public Health at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine's Department of Public Health Sciences is seeking a highly organized and project-oriented Temporary Research Support Coordinator for a new Copeland Foundation funded project to design and implement the Journal of Public Health Student Capstones (JPHSC). The JPHSC will be a new scholarly journal dedicated to the scientific review, publishing and archival of high-quality capstone projects completed by undergraduate and graduate public health students. This new project will require strong project management skills to achieve the following aims during the project period:

  • Design JPHSC website and implement Open Journal System software

  • Create guidelines for capstone manuscript submissions

  • Register journal with appropriate international and national entities

  • Create protocol for manuscript reviews and review criteria

  • Identify editorial board members

  • Identify and train manuscript reviewers

  • Work with Marketing for postcard, banner and table cloth advertising

  • Advertise journal marketing materials to AJPH, Nation's health, etc.

  • Launch Journal to Public Health Community

  • Submit Final Report to DPHS

The Research Support Coordinator will support Dr. Alberto Caban-Martinez, Assistant Professor of Public Health Sciences and Principal Investigator of the Copeland Foundation project with the aims to implement the JPHSC. The Research Support Coordinator will be responsible for different tasks that may include but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Principal Investigator with scheduling meetings and events (coordinating logistics: room reservations through 25live, ensure room is set up to accommodate all attendees, arranging AV support as needed, organizing and printing agendas, and ordering food and refreshments as needed; including completion of Event Forms)

  • Prepare financial forms and utilize Workday to complete expense reports and purchase requisitions (for supplies orders)

  • Participate in team meetings and take meeting minutes as needed

  • Documents production/reformatting, send faxes, creates/troubleshoots issues with PowerPoint and other electronic docs, makes copies and scans documents

  • Assist Principal Investigator with scientific literature searches and reviews

  • Assist Principal Investigator with the development of protocols, guidelines, review rubrics, creation of advertisement plans and materials as it pertains to the JPHSC.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree, Master's level degree preferred, with experience in Public Health. Two years of work experience in research and administrative work (analysis and recruitment). Exhibit professional demeanor with an emphasis in customer service as a representative of the Journal of Public Health Student Capstones and the UM Department of Public Health Sciences. Committed to working for project performance period (03/01/2019 - 08/30/2019). Available to work 20 hours per week during business hours (9am-5pm Monday-Friday). Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
