Jacobs is currently seeking a Network Support Engineer to join their team at the customer site in the Reston, VA area. This position requires shift work.

  • The Network Support Engineer Tier 3 provides engineering level support, and troubleshooting guidance to the Network Operations Center (NOC).

  • Monitors network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability Maintains network hardware and software.

  • Proactively identify risks in the network and develop a plan to mitigate them. Provides engineering designs solutions to resolve long-term problematic issues.

  • Provides support of numerous business requirements into telecommunications (e.g., LAN, MAN, WAN, Voice and Video).

  • This position works independently and in a group setting.

  • They have authority to make necessary network changes required to resolve an issue and restore service as well as making decisions on a daily basis which could result in significant impact to network systems

  • Takes part in the interview process to evaluate the candidate's technical abilities.

The INFOSEC and COMSEC security requirements for the network add to the complexity of these positions. Positions at this level are responsible for performing moderately complex network designs; performing upgrades to limited segments of the network, and performing routine network operations and maintenance (O&M). Also, provides after-hour on-call support.

  • Active TS/SCI W/ Poly Required

  • Typically requires a BS degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and eight (8) to twelve (12) years of progressive, relevant experience, or and MS degree in a computer or system science discipline and seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive experience, or a Ph.D. degree in a computer or system science discipline and two (2) to five (5) years or progressive experience


  • Someone that is fully capable of delivering capabilities related to a particular skill, language, system, or technology.

  • Ability, training and actual work experience with the specific computer language, systems, and/or technology is significantly more important than the number of years of experience. This is especially true with emerging technologies

  • Expertise in routing protocols, TCP/IP protocols, security requirements and network communications.

  • Expertise with network monitoring and reporting tools and technology

  • Considered to be an expert, authority in discipline

  • Expertise in Tier III support

  • Expertise with CISCO and Juniper Routers, Switches, Firewalls, WAN Protocols (EIGRP), QOS, LAN and Data Center Protocols (Spanning -Tree, Fabric-enabled technologies, VoIP to support Data, Voice and Video)

  • Experience with Voice Over IP (VoIP)

  • Familiarity with DMVPM

  • Familiarity with general Unix OS functionality

  • Experience adapting to changing environments and coordinate large scale implementations using available resources

  • Experience working helpdesk functions

  • Experience with technical writing IE: SOPs, technical proposals, etc.

  • Experience with Network monitoring

  • Desired Certifications: BICSI Certification is preferred
