Applied Research Laboratory. Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL), located at the University of Hawai‘i, Manoa Innovation Center, in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications.

DUTIES: Performs as primary System Administrator for a talented team of scientists, engineers and administrators who have highly variable levels of skill when working with information systems. Administers various systems of information platforms to include: Windows Server 2016, Windows 10, VMWare, Linux and MacOS. Manages maintenance and high-availability operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with software and cybersecurity engineers, PC desktop technicians, project managers and end users. Ability to support multiple networks, both on-site and remote administration of networks via VPN. Ensures necessary administration tasks are completed and directs others as necessary. Develops and maintains organizational policies in accordance with NIST 800 series information system guidelines for Department of Defense (DoD) contractors/subcontractors. Recommends and implements system enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system including installing, upgrading, patching, monitoring, problem resolution, and configuration management. Provides backup and recovery services. Manages file systems and disk space. Manages virus protection on a routine basis. Creates and maintains user and computer accounts, modifies file permissions and security access lists via Windows Active Directory and Group Policy Objects. Develops and documents technical processes involving networks and audit logs as needed. Maintains security audit and logging information on all networked and standalone computers. Administers Microsoft Exchange Server and Domain Controllers. Prepares security documentation, to include firewall logs, access control logs and intrusion attempts for input to the IA Specialist.

Job Requirements:
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Information Assurance, Computer Science or related Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) field. EXPERIENCE: Three to five (3-5) years of related experience in information systems and email administration. Experience using active directory and cloud-based office solutions. Experience maintaining network infrastructure to include: switches, routers, access points, firewalls and servers. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Expert knowledge and understanding of authentication and access control methods for end point devices, to include both local and remote administration. Experience with administration and maintenance of desktop operating systems (i.e., MacOS, Windows, and UNIX-based) and Microsoft software products (Azure Cloud Services, Office365 suite of apps). Knowledge of disaster recovery management systems and relational databases. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, with internal or external affiliates, in written and oral format. Demonstrated ability to effectively execute projects and coordinate with IS/IT teams to provide systems software and hardware support in a cross-platform multi-platform distributed production environment with local and cloud-based infrastructure resources. Ability to develop written reports, policies and procedures. Ability to implement and maintain network security policies and guidelines. Ability to maintain inventory and coordinates high availability of computing hardware and software resources. Ability to provide technical instruction and documentation for technical and non-technical professionals. Skilled in the installation, management, and maintenance of multiple operating systems, applications, and other software and hardware. Post Offer/Employment Conditions: Subject to a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Defense Security Service (DSS) personnel security background investigation. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and carry up to thirty (30) pounds unassisted from ground level while in a standing position. SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Windows Certified Systems Administrator Certification, CompTIA Security Plus, or DoD 8570 IAT Level II equivalent certification.
