* Required minimum education:

Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Associates degree in Nursing (ADN) is minimum

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

RNs hired after January 2017 require completion of BSN within 2 years of start date. RNs hired
between January 2014 and December 2016 require completion of BSN within 3 years of start date.

* Required minimum experience:

One (1) year experience as a clinical nurse, or completion of an RN residency program, or a THR residency program.

Women's Services/Lactation RN experience from an acute care facility strongly preferred.

* Required license/certification:

Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire

Current AHA BCLS/CPR certification upon hire.

Must have IBCLC certification within 12 months of hire - if not current

* Required skills (if applicable):

A high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.


Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred
(Must obtain BSN within 2 years from date of hire)
Two (2) or more years as RN in Lactation, breastfeeding education and resource
Prefer current IBCLC certification (Must obtain IBCLC within 12 months of date of hire)
Must have flexibility with schedule.


Functions as an expert resource on breastfeeding issues for patients, families, community, staff, and physicians.
Serves as a clinical expert for lactation issues based on evidence
Produces documentation that initiates, follows and revises patient's plan of care.
Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to improve care processes that promote continuity of care
Reviews patient medications for potential complications associated with breastfeeding.
Assesses outpatients for symptoms of jaundice and breastfeeding problems
Participates in breast pump rental and retail sales within the Breastfeeding Resource Center
