SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm, with 30-minute unpaid break. - flexibility with start and end times. Hybrid working environment - mix of working at home and office with a minimum of three on-site days at the office per week. (Head Office is located at 616 Powell Street, Vancouver, BC, V6A 1H4)

Position Summary
The Accounting & Compliance Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of the organization’s reporting requirements. This includes preparing monthly and year-end journal entries and bank reconciliation, performing account reconciliation and analysis, researching variances, and identifying trends. This position will also lead the accounting support team to identify, develop, implement and maintain strong internal financial controls and procedures. In addition, the position assists the Senior Accountant during the month-end and year-end and supports the accounting support team, including performing transactional duties as required. Duties are often performed with minimal supervision, with a responsibility to organize workflow to ensure deadlines are met. This position reports to the Director of Finance.

Key Responsibilities:
The Accounting and Compliance Supervisor is responsible for the following responsibilities:
Accounting and Finance:

Manages the full cycle of accounts payable and accounts receivable, including timely monitoring and response to inquiries through the accounting mailbox and internal accounting ticketing system, to ensure accurate and efficient financial operations
Performs full cycle accounting functions, including posting to the general ledger, completing trial balances, preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciling and balancing data, preparing draft financial statements for review by the Director of Finance.
Manages and reviews peer pay process, petty cash, staff expenses reimbursements, and advances.
Assists the Senior Accountant in the audit process including preparation of audit working papers, responding to inquiries from the auditors, investigating variances, and ensuring responses meet audit deadlines.
Acts as the first point of contact in Finance for RainCity staff, external customers and vendors with respect to billings, vendor invoices and staff reimbursements.
Plays a lead role in identifying, developing, implementing and maintaining strong internal financial controls and procedures.

Reporting and Budgeting:

Prepares various reports, summaries and analyses such as period-end balance sheets and income statements, general ledgers, funder reports, year-end working papers, variance analyses, draft budgets, and general ledger account reconciliations
Prepares and analyzes monthly, quarterly, and annual financial position summaries and performance reports for all funders, contracts covering the full portfolio of programs, projects, and grants managed by the organization.
Researches and analyzes differences between current and prior year financial results and budgeted amounts
Responsible for all weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual statutory reporting, transactions, payments on GST, WSBC, etc.
Along with the Senior Accountant, develops work procedures and ensures departmental standards are maintained, transactions are accurate, and deadlines are met; provides input on operational requirements to the Director of Finance.
Records and manages all incoming donations, including restricted and unrestricted funds, as well as grants received from government agencies, private donors, and institutional funders. Prepares quarterly donation reports and reconciliations to ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and compliance with donor and grant requirements.
Assists with developing and implementing ongoing improvements to information technology processes and procedures with the Finance department.

Leadership:

Supervises accounting support team members and performs annual performance and coaching on members.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.


Job Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (Accounting and Finance)
A minimum of 1 year of related accounting experience in a nonprofit organization, including a track record of experience in managing, preparing, and analyzing various types of funds, grants, projects, and donations-both restricted and unrestricted.
Must have experience supporting the full financial portfolio of programs, departments, and contracts, with a strong understanding of nonprofit fund accounting, donor reporting requirements, and compliance with government and private funding guidelines.
Familiarity with audit preparation, budget monitoring, and financial reporting to multiple stakeholders is preferred.
Must have high proficiency in Dynamics 365 Business Central accounting system and Sage 300 as well as advanced skills in Excel.
Ability to understand, communicate and support the mission and principles of Housing First and Harm Reduction model.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
Proficiency in using computers: Microsoft 365, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and various video conferencing platforms.
