Job Description:
We’re seeking a Senior Client Accountant who is technically strong, detail-oriented, and proactive. In this role, you’ll be the primary accounting contact for a portfolio of agency clients, owning monthly revenue reconciliations, billing accuracy, and financial reporting deliverables. You’ll work as part of a pod with a General Accountant, Finance Manager, and Finance Director to deliver the experience of an in-house finance team, remotely.


Job Requirements:
RESPONSIBILITIES
Revenue Accounting & Reconciliation:
Maintain inventory schedule of Gross Billing, Expected Hard Costs, and Gross Profit by client and job.
Reconcile inventory schedule to the General Ledger twice monthly.
Perform reasonability testing of monthly net revenue recognition and understand the methodology used.
Learn the deal terms for each of your client’s clients (project fees vs. retainer, mark-ups, hourly rates, etc.) and flag any projects not performing as expected.
Prepare the monthly WIP report, lead the WIP meeting, and manage post-meeting deliverables.
Prepare supporting schedules for the Monthly Management Pack as assigned by the Finance Manager.
General Accounting
For select clients, perform general accounting duties including supplier invoice data entry, payment run preparation, and bank/credit card reconciliations.
File HST returns in a timely manner to avoid penalties.
Client & Financial Management:
Maintain the billing schedule for your clients; ensure all billing is accurate, sent on time, and aligns with payment terms.
Maintain a schedule of your client’s clients, including MSA links, billing and payment terms, and contact information.
Review client management reports regularly to ensure timely billing and that fees and costs are being accurately estimated and recovered
Manage client email inboxes and respond to client queries within predefined timeframes.
Work with the General Accountant to prepare the weekly cash flow forecast, with a focus on cash inflows.
Perform variance and profitability analysis for client projects as required.
Investigate and resolve client issues quickly and professionally.
System & Process Management:
Learn and effectively use the software required to support monthly workflows.
Apply the Fiscally Way while also accommodating client-specific business rules where appropriate.
Document and follow consistent practices for maintaining client schedules and files.
Maintain a continuous improvement mindset and contribute ideas for improving client service delivery.
Communication & Problem-Solving:
Act as the day-to-day client contact on revenue and project-related accounting matters.
Respond to internal and external inquiries promptly and professionally.
Know when and how to escalate issues to your Finance Manager.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, peers, and other members of the finance team.
Collaborate with your team, including a General Accountant, Finance Manager, and Finance Director, to deliver the experience of an in-house accounting team—remotely.

QUALIFICATIONS
A college diploma or university degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a project-based or professional-services environment.
A combination of large public accounting firm experience and cloud-based firm experience is an asset.
Experience working with U.S. clients and familiarity with U.S. accounting regulations is highly preferred.
Experience with project-based accounting or agency billing models (retainer, fixed-fee, hourly) required.
Strong understanding of revenue recognition principles and month-end close processes.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client entities simultaneously with accuracy and attention to detail.
Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Hubdoc, Harvest, Ramp, Google Workspace, and other cloud-based accounting platforms.
Advanced skills in reconciliations, variance analysis, and project profitability tracking.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and stakeholders effectively.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
CPA, CMA, or similar designation (or working towards it) considered an asset.
Prior experience in a remote work environment is an asset.
