Job Description:
Debtors Anonymous (D.A.) is a 12-step Fellowship dedicated to helping members recover from compulsive debting by adhering to 12-step principles. We are looking for a creative and skilled Publishing & Editorial (P&E) Manager to work on a remote, paid freelance basis with the D.A. Board Literature Publications and Translating Committee on streamlining our production and distribution processes.

We are a global non-profit corporation with membership growing each year for our texts and translations. We have a rigorous approval process for new and translated literature. Our goal is to develop the publishing and distribution procedures so that once something is approved, it can be quickly published for our membership.

The role will involve being a key point of contact for internal and external partners during the development process of both our English language and translated books and pamphlets. The P&E Manager will keep projects running smoothly and provide key support to Board members directing the process.

This new role will require someone who has hands-on experience in book publishing and understands all stages of book production and distribution.

Job Type: Freelance Remote
Pay Range: $25-30/hour


Job Requirements:
Role and responsibilities
● Support the Chair of the Literature Publications Committee (LitPub) in developing the publishing plan and calendar.
● Support the Literature Publications and Literature Services committees with finding writers, both paid and unpaid, through outreach to the Fellowship.
● Help to inform and execute D.A.'s global publishing strategy - including online platforms for US and European/Asian markets, and for residents in the global south.
● Work with the Chair of Literature Services to collate editorial notes and communicate these with special workers (writers, proofreaders, copy editors etc.)
● Manage schedules and development processes working with Literature Publications and external vendors (designers/layout editors)
● Provide copy, editorial support, and proofreading for the Committees concerned with marketing when needed.
● Prepare a periodic update on Amazon and other sales platforms. Overseeing our 'shop' on the chosen platforms.
● Present publishing updates to the LitPub Chair and occasionally the Fellowship (via Zoom to LitPub).
● Report to the General Service Office Manager for administrative supervision and support.
● Develop the role over time to manage related responsibilities, as needed.

Key experience and skills
● Excellent English language skills.
● Demonstrable understanding of all stages of the book and editorial development process working through from manuscript to distributed product.
● A track record in managing editorial projects and delivering to agreed schedules.
● Experience in managing relationships, liaising with writers, editors, and other publishing professionals.
● Comfortable reviewing and providing editorial notes / design feedback where necessary.
● Excellent editorial and proofreading skills and attention to detail.
● A thoughtful and keen creative eye for spotting opportunities and providing detailed feedback on materials.
● Familiarity with 12-step practices

Desirable and/or willing to learn:
● Adobe InDesign skills
● Fluency (reading) in a language other than English
