Description:



The purpose of the Strategic Alliances team is to develop and serve Blue Shield of California's key alliances and to preserve and enhance the organization's mission, performance and reputation.


We plan, created, promote, manage, and maintain strong strategic alliances between BSC and external strategic parties. Examples include associations, joint ventures, minority investments, potential acquisitions.

Job Duties:


  • Provides basic analytical support through the analysis and interpretation of data in support of cross-functional business operations for the team.

  • Assists in the development, preparation, and uses critical thinking skills to provide analysis of reports for management review.

  • Assists in defining business requirements and provides analysis to increase operational efficiency for deliverables.

  • Identifies opportunities for improvement in operational performance and notifies management of issues and problems requiring immediate attention.

  • Works cross-functionally in analyzing, designing, and developing business solutions.

  • Works on projects, establishes work plans, and timelines; coordinates with internal and external resources.

  • Develops and uses communication skills to make presentations to various levels of management.

  • Learns the company's business goals and capabilities and applies them in developing targeted business plans.

  • Collects, gathers and analyzes quantitative research and competitive data to gain insights into health insurance strategies.

  • Develops specific project plans and manages implementation / execution of low to moderate complexity.

  • Uses concepts and abilities as well as internal policies and procedures to complete assignments and solve a wide range of challenging problems.

  • May be given leadership responsibility for specific projects after demonstrating command of work content/deliverables.







Qualifications:



Required skills:


  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience as business analyst.

  • Understanding of basics of health plan operations and competitor market place.

  • BA/BS in a related field such as business and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong project management skills with attention to details.

  • Ability to multitask with multiple deadlines and/or milestone requirements.

  • Analytical and quantitative skills and advanced ability to use MS Office: Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and Word preferred.

  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems related to business operations.

  • Ability to use interpersonal skills to influence without authority.

  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal, negotiation and communication (verbal and written) skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on customer service. Advanced knowledge of a variety of software applications required.


Desired:




  • Previous business analyst experience in a health plan setting.

  • Previous experience as a Business Analyst or Operations Specialist.

  • Ability to independently implement operational and communication plans.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of health insurance products, services and their financial drivers.

  • Basic understanding of legal, brand, and regulatory compliance requirements for marketing health insurance plans and where to go for additional guidance.
