Job Description:
1. Conduct field exploration, drilling, and geologic mapping in LA County, determining the composition and lithology of earth materials (soil and bedrock), identifying geological structures and collecting samples. Prepare detailed logs of subsurface exploration to document site conditions.
2. Analyze geological and seismic data from various sources, including aerial topography and regional/state geologic maps. Integrate these data for geologic interpretation and prepare in-situ maps and cross-sections for qualitative analysis.
3. Develop and execute laboratory testing plans to determine the physical and chemical properties of collected samples. Perform a range of tests, including density-moisture, direct shear, grain size distribution, chemical corrosion tests and more.
4. Carry out comprehensive geologic and geotechnical studies and analyses, such as faulting / seismicity study, hydrologic study, stereographic projection - kinematic analysis, slope stability analysis, liquefaction analysis and more. Evaluate the stability and feasibility of the site and proposed projects based on these analyses.
5. Compile engineering calculations and analysis for review by licensed Professional Engineers. Assist these engineers in reviewing and approving construction-related plans, such as grading, shoring, foundations, drainage plans and more.
6. Analyze various reports, maps, and data to assist in project planning. Provide recommendations for design, construction, and quality control in land development and building construction.
7. Prepare scientific and technical reports, including geological and geotechnical investigation reports, and conduct field inspections to ensure field construction in compliance with the recommendations of these reports and building codes.
8. Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and the Senior-Level Project Manager, contributing to understanding project needs and meeting deadlines.
Job Requirements:
1. Master's degree in Geoscience or Petroleum Engineering, or its foreign equivalent.
2. Minimum of two years of full-time experience in conducting geological and geotechnical evaluations, integrating the use of DIPS software for Stereographic Projection and Kinematic Analysis, as well as XSTABL software for Slope Stability Analysis.
3. Must be proficient in the Seed and Idriss model for conducting liquefaction analysis and performing evaluations of earthquake-induced settlements.
4. Must possess a Registered Deputy Grading Inspector license issued by the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety.
5. Regular travel within Los Angeles County is required for conducting geologic field exploration and inspections.
