Job Description:

I. General Summary:
Provides support for Metal Stamping, Welding, Wire/Tube Bending, and check fixture quotes supplied from production suppliers and Production Engineering (PE), including tool cost modeling. Evaluates and advises on all stamping tooling quotations. Negotiates tool details with supply base to obtain optimal pricing level.


II. Essential Job Functions:
A. Review supplier cost breakdown data and validate details of supplier quotes
1. Provide ECI (Engineering Change Instruction) cost analysis for stamping tooling
2. Evaluate tooling costs on potential new programs
B. Create and maintain "Cost Models" for stamping and other miscellaneous tools
1. Set and maintain standards for tool evaluation
2. Assist other divisions in determining appropriate tooling costs
C. Work independently with production suppliers and PE group to ensure "Cost Models" are being met
1. Contact supply base for tool evaluation/negotiation
2. Visit supply base to evaluate capabilities and processes
3. Collaborate and assist with supplier evaluation process
D. Assist PE group with "in house" tool evaluations
E. Assist purchasing buyers with production tool evaluations
F. Support related drawing reviews with inter-departmental functions and suppliers
G. Development/enhancement of tooling cost database
H. Support supplier risk management activities including but not limited to:
a. Critical tool transitions-coordination of physical shipments
b. Tooling failures-provide expert opinion of failure mode and countermeasure for recovery
c. Tool disposal/refurbishment-support suppliers/buyers to meet customer expectations



III. Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
Education:
* High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred
* Journeyman license is a plus
Experience:
* Greater than four (4) years of relevant experience and academic preparation or six (6) years of relevant experience
* Minimum of four (4) years experience in stamping die design, fabrication, cost estimation/evaluation, negotiation, and build process including check fixtures
* Background in automotive seating/door components and tight tolerances for OEM, Tier 1, or Tier II automotive supplier-related company preferred


Personal/Technical Skills:
* Strong background in stamping die and tool quoting
* Ability to estimate stamping die tool cost from 2D/3D part print/model, including size of steel block, estimate number of actions/undercuts, size of tool, tonnage required, and identify undesirable tool/molding conditions
* Familiarity with Hot Rolled, Cold Rolled, Hot Dipped, Galvannealed Metal material types , tube/wires
including High Strength Materials ( HSLA).
o Recognition of specific automotive grades preferred
* Working knowledge and good understanding of machining and tool building process including ability to propose potential options to tool vendors
* Ability to develop an accurate "Should Be" tool cost calculator based upon OEM Standards.
* Familiarity with forming simulation software including strip layout and stress analysis
* Understand steel Stamping/Welding/Wire/Tube Bending quality requirements, and check fixture and inspection standards.
* Understanding of General Tolerances.
* 3D CAD experience (CATIA preferred).
* Ability to interact with purchasing buyers, sales, product design engineers and collaborate on manufacturing feasibility of stamping parts and tooling.
* Ability to read components, assembly, and equipment drawings (including 2D/3D).
* Able to work in a fast paced, multicultural work environment.
* Ability to function both independently and with good judgment in a team environment.
* Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work efficiently within time constraints and deadlines, and handle stressful situations.

Language Skills:
* Ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex information in verbal and written English.
* Japanese, Spanish, and/or Portuguese would be helpful.


Computer/Software:
* Previous experience working with integrated computer programs and/or applications. ERP System experience (e.g., Oracle) preferred.
* 3D modeling software: AutoCAD, Unigraphics NX, and CATIA experience is preferred.
* Solid working knowledge and demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, etc.). Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel.




IV. Work Environment/Conditions:
Flexible work environment offered with mix of work from home & in-office (according to manager discretion)
Office: Open Office Environment, moderate noise level.


Travel: Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time throughout North America (other regions possible: Latin America, South America, and Japan).
V. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to talk, see, and hear. The team member must be capable of walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time. May be occasionally required to lift up to 30 pounds. Ability to sit and work on a computer for extensive periods of time is required.
