ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS




  • Demonstrates competence in assessing and interpreting nutritional needs of the patient and implementing nutritional care plans
  • Completes assessments and re-assessments per hospital policy and using pre-determined parameters

  • Assesses and identifies needs for all TPN patients

  • Assesses and identifies needs for all patients on tube feedings

  • Writes thorough nutrition notes in the medical record to document assessment and care plan.

  • Demonstrates competence in communicating appropriate nutritional care data with medical team
  • Attends daily patient care rounds and communicates necessary nutritional concerns

  • Attends inter-disciplinary hospital meetings as needed, I.e. JCAHO meetings

  • Maintains pertinent communication with the medical team

  • Demonstrates competence in instructing patients or significant other on their diet
  • Individualizes instructions to meet the needs of the patient

  • Provides appropriate written diet information

  • Instructs all cardiac rehab patients as requested

  • Teamwork: Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others. Has respect for and understanding of other disciplines. Uses an integrated approach toward patient outcomes.
  • Communicates with the health care team members, patients, and families to maximize patient outcomes.

  • Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to increase practice knowledge and incorporates that knowledge into the nutrition plan of care.

  • Collaborates with other nutrition service members in sharing and assuming staff assignments and coverage. (i.e.: help cover inpatient load when outpatient census is down)

  • Participates in work groups or committees.

  • Act as a resource to the medical staff and to the community to provide nutrition education as needed.
  • Provide education to physician's nurses and other health care providers to optimize nutrition therapy outcomes.

  • Provide educational inservices to the community as needed.





  • Qualifications



    • Experience Minimum Required

      • Completed internship


    • Experience Preferred/Desired

      • One year of previous experience preferred


    • Education Minimum Required

      • BS in nutrition


    • Education Preferred/Desired

      • BS with a certification in a specialized area or MS in nutrition


    • Special Skills Minimum Required

      • Food Service Systems


    • Licensure and/or Certifications Required

      • Licensed Dietitian, Registered Dietician
