Job Duties:
1. Develop editorial direction and strategies for our magazine’s published content including determining the topic of material, the tone, the writing style, and the overall focus of the narratives.
2. Lead the group discussion, assign stories to writers and take charge of the editing process to ensure that all contents meet our magazine's standards.
3. Coordinate with other departments of the company, such as marketing and sales, to align the published content with the company’s objectives for improved reader feedback.
4. Take control of the content creation team, oversee the work of the entire editorial process, from idea brainstorming to editing the final products, as well as ensuring deadlines are met and the articles are of high quality across all our platforms.
5. Stay up-to-date with the local Chinese community’s interests of news by analyzing market research results to guide the writing direction of upcoming publications.
6. Participate in editorial budget planning including determining the publication schedules and allocating resources for each section.
7. Build and maintain a positive working relationship with content contributors, such as writers, photographers, and freelancers to secure a consistent stream of new content and ideas.
8. Consult with legal professionals to keep our publications in line with regulatory policies and internal regulations.
9. Assist in the staff hiring process and provide the necessary training to bring the new employees up to speed with our writing standards.
10. Attend industry events, conferences, and other professional gatherings.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
1. A college diploma in communications, journalism or equivalent working experience is required.
2. At least three years of experience as an editor or in a related position is required.
3. Demonstrated writing and editing experience or samples.
4. Proficiency in both English and Chinese language is required.
5. Pay attention to details.
6. Effective leadership and able to provide constructive feedback to staff.
7. Innovative; continually searches for ways to improve processes/workflows and the publication as a whole.
8. Show a deep understanding of creating and editing engaging content for magazines.
9. Demonstrate strong communicational skills in both verbal and written forms.
