Job Description:

The Staff Attorney assists the Office of General Counsel with providing legal advice and counsel to all levels of staff by identifying and analyzing legal issues, drafting documents and memoranda, presenting recommendations, negotiating agreements, and ensuring credit union compliance. The various functions of this position ensure that Credit Union operations are in accordance with the standards established by law and regulation, while protecting the Credit Union’s legal interests.

 

This position is expected to be hybrid. 

 

NYC Salary Range - $110,000-$140,000 annually; compensation is commensurate to geographic location.


  • Support the Office of General Counsel (OGC) by monitoring the regulations governing financial institutions, forming and participating in special project teams to advise on and address compliance changes and issues.
  • Review and advise business lines on legal documents, such as powers of attorney, court orders, subpoenas, guardianship appointments and letters of administration.
  • Support the OGC in legal research on all domestic and international matters affecting the credit union.
  • Spport the OGC in conducting investigations, reviewing employment matters, and conducting legal research.
  • Review marketing collateral and notifications to the public for regulatory compliance and compliance with social media platform terms and conditions.
  • Uphold UNFCU’s mission, core values, and guiding principles by providing an exceptional service experience to colleagues and members alike through consistent demonstration of our service excellence behaviors.

  • Juris Doctor or L.L.M. and admission to the New York State Bar with 2-5 years of legal practice 
  • Strong ability to use independent judgment on legal issues that relate to compliance laws, vendor contracts, Federal and State laws, NCUA rules and regulations, etc.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Well organized and detail oriented; ability to work independently
