Cytotechnologist (Healthcare / Medical Laboratory)
Job Description
Position: Full Time Cytotechnologist
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm
Location: Hicksville, NY Area
Job Responsibilities
As a cytotechnologist, you will work under general supervision and will process and screen cytology specimens and provide an interpretation of the patient cases to the supervisor and Pathologists. You will perform high complexity testing procedures including GYN, NONGYN and FNA.
Additional responsibilities of the Cytotechnologist include:
Accurate screening and interpretation of non-gynecological and gyn specimens and needle aspirates
Check each slide for labeling accuracy to help insure clinician receives correct results. Errors must be documented and reported to appropriate personnel for correction.
Review each slide to check overall quality of preparation such as staining intensity and quality, proper cover slipping, and stain artifacts to help insure diagnostic accuracy
Review and confirm that all patient information was accurately input into computer system to help insure clinician receives accurate results. Errors must be documented and reported to appropriate personnel for correction.
Preparation and review of cytology diagnostic reports (including capturing photomicrographs and input of diagnostic codes) into laboratory computer system ensuring for accuracy of results for pathologist review
Compliance with all Federal and State regulations pertaining to the cytology laboratory:
Understanding and adherence to all regulatory and licensing requirement
Participation in proficiency testing events
Adherence to and documentation of workload requirements
Maintenance of accurate workload records and follow up information
Continuing Education
Attendance at in-house Continuing Education meetings including consensus conferencing
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Minimal travel required between two different sites

Job Requirements
Successful candidates for the Cytotechnologist must have experience with thin prep cytology. Someone with ASCP certification in cytotechnology or eligible would be a fit for this role.
Additional requirements of the cytotechnologist role include:
Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, or biological sciences
FNA (fine needle aspiration) experience a plus
GYN and Non-GYN experience
Must be Thin Prep Imaging Certified
