Job Description:
The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the cleaning of campus buildings and programs associated with the custodial department. This includes overseeing a crew of Custodians and collaborating with a variety of campus stakeholders, units and colleagues to create a clean, sanitary and aesthetically pleasing environment. This position will be responsible for the overall program management including standards and procedure development and implementation, performing analysis of operations, and program evaluation.

This position works a graveyard shift, with supervisory duties, from 9:30 PM - 6:30 AM.

The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for making timely and informed decisions regarding purchases of supplies and equipment up to $5,000 per month and will collaborate with management on large equipment purchase outside of the regularly scheduled products.

This position manages staff to achieve the goals and objectives of FS in an effective and efficient manner and to ensure compliance with employment law, union collective bargaining agreement as well as State & University policies.

Interactions/contacts occur daily with the campus community in the course of performing work and responding to emergencies. This position will respond to customer complaints and escalated concerns resulting from issues that arise from day shift operations. This position will participate on cross-departmental committees as a representative of the Custodial department to provide input, recommendations, and evaluation of departmental initiatives. Additionally, the position may interact with vendors and external contractors.

The Custodial Supervisor works as a member of a team while frequently performing tasks independently. Decisions may be made about the best method and materials necessary to perform a particular task. They may also include setting priorities, assessing customer needs and responding to those needs. The impact of the decisions made by this position can affect financial standing, department morale, and overall health and well-being of campus buildings.

Work is reviewed directly by the Custodial Services Manager to ensure it is performed efficiently, safely, and meets both expectations and applicable requirements. A performance appraisal is conducted annually.

Special Requirement:
This position will require a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain UO Driver’s Certification.

Essential Personnel:
This unit may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.


Job Requirements:
Minimum Requirements
• Two years’ experience in supervision or lead work of employees.
• Two years’ experience with oversight of a project or program.
• One year of experience in professional custodial services.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a pertinent field.
• Experience with APPA: Leadership in Educational Facilities' standards for staffing and cleanliness.
• Experience with supervision in a unionized environment.
