Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawai‘i Maui College (UHMC), Software Development Center (SDC), located in Kahului, Hawai‘i. Telework (from employee’s residence city and state) may be permissible subject to review and approval by Principal Investigator and RCUH. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications.
DUTIES: • Designs, develops, and tests software programs that align with sponsored SDC projects. • Works on other projects as required. • Researches and analyzes sponsor’s needs and business processes and contributes to the development of new and existing systems. • Develops automated report generation and business class software applications that interface with secure databases. • As required, administers server applications associated with the sponsored projects. • Participates in training of users and assists with the creation of training materials. • Provides written progress reports and documents systems, applications, processes, business logic and other aspects of related material as required. • May be required to travel to all islands to meet with stakeholders and deliver training workshops as required.
Job Requirements: PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Computer Science or related field. (Two (2) years of college course work from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or related field, with two (2) years related experience may substitute for Bachelor’s Degree.). EXPERIENCE Four to six (4-6) years of professional work experience in programming web accessible database applications, and web site development. Experience should include working with modern web frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, UNIX-Linux environments, and databases such as MySQL, Postgres, or Sequel Server. KNOWLEDGE In-depth knowledge of high level programming languages and scripting languages such as Ruby, Python, Rust, PHP, or Javascript. Knowledge of SQL and enterprise level web database application programming is essential. ABILITIES & SKILLS Ability to develop and deploy web sites and administer one (1) or more of the following servers or their equivalent: Linux, Windows, Apache, Nginx, Tomcat. Ability to incorporate professional web page and graphic design techniques into a user interface. Ability to effectively conduct work remotely (e.g., telework) as applicable. SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with application and database server management. Experience with data mapping and migration. Experience with developing web services (APIs) for delivering and consuming information.
