Vice President Commercial Lender



Department: Commercial Loans


Reports to: EVP - Commercial Lending


Summary: Under the general direction of the Executive Vice President, develops, negotiates terms, and services commercial loan accounts; generates and maintains an effective client base in conformance with established goals and objectives.



JOB REQUIREMENTS:




  • Formal credit training and college degree.

  • Has a minimum of 3 years of actual commercial lending experience.

  • Superior sales and presentation skills.

  • Superior knowledge of all aspects of Banks credit policy, procedures and federal/state regulatory requirements.

  • Strong analytical ability.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.

  • Strong industry knowledge.



ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS




  • Primary responsibility is for sales, service, retention and acquisition of profitable BOC clients.

  • Ability to generate net new loan growth of $10 - 15MM annually

  • Key responsibilities include achievement of net portfolio growth and related profit goals. Growth goals must adhere to bank policies and procedures. Emphasis is on face-to-face and telephone interaction with customers.

  • Cross selling existing customers and proactive development of new customers is a major focus of the position.

  • Ability to support, manage and acquire multiple complex relationships.

  • Performance standards and incentives relate to generation of new business, retention of customers, maintaining acceptable credit quality and cross selling.

  • Originates commercial loans, often of a large and complex nature. Meets with applicant and collects documentation and required information. Evaluates credit analyses and related factors. Negotiates structure, pricing and terms of loan.

  • Makes loan decisions within assigned limits. Prepares materials and presents loans to Executive Vice President, President and the Board of Directors.

  • Services existing banking relationships as account officer, e.g., ensures receipt of updated financial statements, follows up on customer needs, provides advice and makes visits to customer site, as warranted. Ensures document files are complete.

  • Actively seeks to generate commercial accounts through business development calls, customer referrals, etc. Develops and maintains referral network of area accountants and attorneys, etc.




  • Reviews loan status of accounts annually to determine any changes in financial condition or business climate that may adversely affect loan repayment.

  • Coordinates loan workout and collection activities for assigned accounts; determines realistic steps and works with attorneys to map out appropriate strategies, if legal action is warranted.

  • Attends senior management meetings and participates in formulating plans (action plans) and strategies to address problem loans, new regulations, etc., as well as more long range strategic and goal setting planning.

  • Represents the Bank in the community by actively participating in various community and civic activities.

  • Performs related origination, servicing, and collections functions as may be required to ensure the ongoing maintenance and profitability of the commercial loan portfolio.
