Job Description:

The University of Miami/Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Manager, Central Sterile Processing. The Manager, Central Sterile Processing assumes responsibility for the management of human and material resources in the inventory, control, and distribution of patient supplies. This position also provides guidance and oversight to department staff and ensures department activities are in compliance with applicable policies and procedures at all times.



  • Collaborates with the Director of Nursing Programs/Perioperative Education, Quality and Patient Safety writing, developing, reviewing, and revising CSS Policies and Procedures.

  • Collaborates with the Nurse Manager and Director of Nursing Programs/Perioperative Education, Quality and Patient Safety selecting, evaluating and purchasing new sterilization equipment (capital equipment)

  • Participates in unit staff meetings by updating staff on new CSS processes.

  • Presents at OR Staff Meetings

  • Co-chairs monthly CSS Staff Meetings.

  • Re-designs forms for ordering stock items, monitoring sterilization reports.

  • Is a liaison between BPEI CSS and the clinics, Eye Bank, including satellite clinics.

  • Responsible for all records required regarding sterilization and tissue temperatures in accordance with the Joint Commission and other regulating agencies.

  • Maintains and upholds hospital and departmental policies pertaining to CSS.

  • Responsible for departmental orientation and ongoing training to personnel in CSS.

  • Inspects instruments and equipment and evaluates the need for repair or replacement.

  • Initiates work orders for repairs and purchase orders for instrument purchasing and supply ordering.

  • Cleans, inspects, assembles instrument trays and coordinates work load of CSS technicians. Insures that departmental infection control policies are followed.

  • Maintains and operates all instrument processing equipment, including sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaner, washer decontaminator, incubator and microscopes.

  • Provides customer service for location of instruments stored in the Instrument Room and for the other hospital departments for whom instruments are processed for sterilization.

  • Promotes standardization and utilization of labor saving supplies, equipment and materials.

  • Verifies SRI deliveries and reconciles variances.

  • Participates in CSS employee evaluations.

  • Develops CSS staff schedules, ensuring adequate coverage during vacations, holidays, sick and other leave of absences.

  • Initiates and follows up problem solving activities related to CSS processes.

  • Attends all mandatory in-services as directed

  • Demonstrates commitment of organizational goals

  • Provide instruction and in-service for new products, procedures and equipment regarding the Central Sterile Processing area.

  • Represents Central Sterile Processing at staff and departmental meetings and in-services.

  • Consistently maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, staff, computer and other sensitive material which may jeopardize the privacy of patients, employees and others.

  • Demonstrates orientation toward service excellence by conducting daily activities, communications and interaction in a cooperative, positive and professional manner.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:
