Job Description:

The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Grant Accountant in the Department of Pathology.



  • Ensures timely preparation and submission of monthly vouchers and expenditure justifications. Assists management with the preparation of program budgets, modifications, and forecasts. Performs grant-related functions such as budget distributions, expense monitoring, periodic invoicing, and financial reporting.

  • Accomplishes grant closeout functions, including reconciliations, financial status reports, final invoices, and final reporting.

  • Communicates with fiscal contacts at funding source for problem resolution and information gathering.

  • Maintains knowledge of current issues relating to grants and single audits of federal, state, and local

  • government agencies and non-profit organizations.

  • Participates in the completion of all aspects of the annual audit report on federal awards.

  • Monitors the general ledger and enters any adjustments or reclassifications.

  • Investigates discrepancies, interprets agreements and regulations, and provides recommendations based on sound accounting practices.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field

Minimum 4 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:



  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.

  • Knowledge of budget control methods, policies, and procedures.

  • Ability to prepare financial and accounting records.

  • Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data.

  • Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results concisely.

  • Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.


Department Specific Functions



  • Leads as a point of contact, subject matter expert, and mentor for colleagues, by interpreting grants and contractual agreements, to include but not limited to, determining allowability, restrictions related to spending, prior approval requirements, cost principles and cost sharing requirements.

  • Prepare three-and-five-year budget forecasting analysis, anticipating shortfalls, surpluses, and mitigation planning with Project Investigators and Senior Leadership.

  • Prepares monthly and quarterly deficit management reports for Project Investigators and Senior Leadership.

  • Drives mitigation planning; coordinates with the Development Office to identify extramural and intramural opportunities with Project Investigator; communicate all relevant planning with Senior Leadership.

  • Coordinates with the Project Investigator and other staff to ensure subrecipient allocations are spent within budgetary timeframes.

  • Ensures payments are consistent with contractual terms of agreement.

  • Coordinates reviews of invoices with the Project Investigator and ensures timely payments.

  • Assists with entering personnel distributions within Workday and Tidemark platforms, as needed.

  • Prepares adjusting journal entries as needed.

  • Continuously monitors the accuracy of Workday personnel distributions.

  • Reviews, monitors, and approves grant related payroll activity.

  • Communicates as needed to ensure that grant payroll activity is processed and posted properly.

  • Prepares adjusting journal entries as needed.

  • Conducts quarterly reviews, cross checking expense for reasonableness, allocability, consistency and conformance.

  • Routinely monitors time and effort to ensure Principal Investigators remain within the salary cap.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested with an appropriate sense of humor, positive and professional attitude, and team spirit.
