Job Description:

Sylvester Cancer Center in Miami, Florida has an amazing opportunity for a Sr. Research Associate 2 (Brain Cancer). The Senior Research Associate 2 (second level research position, track one) supports research activities under the direction of a principle investigator, program director or designee of the principle investigator or program director.

As a member of this Research lab, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team that will optimize and coordinate low to high genomic, proteomic, and drug screening experiments aimed at identifying brain cancer targets.


  • Become fully proficient in the execution of lab processes

  • Develops standard operating procedures for assay protocols

  • Collaborate with laboratory staff to plan and implement experiments.

  • Record data and keep a very neat, well-organized and up to date lab notebook.

  • Able to work independently in an orderly manner, and in accordance with all safety regulations.

  • Use communication skills including presenting results and research, preparing reports and writing SOPs.

Additional Responsibilities include:

  • Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data, maintaining databases etc...

  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures

  • Participates in the publication of significant results, to include authorship of scientific monographs

  • Advances expertise through continued education, training and/or research.

  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.

  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance.


  • M.S. degree in Biological Science, Life Sciences, Engineering, etc., or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • One year of relevant experience required. Three years of experience preferred.

  • Research experience using molecular genetics

  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to use a wide range of laboratory techniques, including handling DNA and RNA, single cell processing and library preparation for NGS, protein purification and analysis, qPCR

  • Experience with tissue culture & aseptic technique.

  • Experience with high-throughput screening and laboratory automation

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment

  • Ability to independently manage work and actions is essential.

  • Track record of pursuing objectives to completion correctly and on time

  • Excellent computer skills and experience with data analysis

  • Opportunity to publish and present data at internal and/or national conferences

  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
