Job Description:

The Department of Enrollment Management - Undergraduate Admission has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Admissions Counselor to work in Coral Gables, FL.

Under the direction of a member of Undergraduate Admission Senior Team (Associate or Senior Associate Director), the Admission Counselor recruits, and works to enroll, qualified students for admission to the school in accordance with all applicable internal and external policies and regulations.

Up to 8 weeks of domestic and/or international travel in the fall and up to 6 weeks in the spring will be required. This includes possible significant evening and weekend commitments.

Core Job Functions



  • Explains educational programs, expected outcomes, student services, and financial considerations to students, parents, and educators

  • Ensures prompt and effective communication with prospective and admitted students

  • Manages an international recruitment territory and builds/strengthens relationships with constituents in that territory, including students and school counselors

  • General office duties, which include rotating with other counselors in serving as "Admission Officer of the Day" (meet with walk-in visitors, handle phone calls, and give presentations to guests)

  • Participates in off-campus events to move prospective students through the pipeline (including high school/community college visits, college fairs, and yield events)

  • Evaluates undergraduate applications for admission based on the University's recruiting goals and standards

  • Counsels applicants, parents, and school counselors regarding the University of Miami's admission policies and procedures

  • Attends on-campus admission events (open houses, admitted student events, scholarship weekends)

  • Appropriately utilizes technology including Slate (Technolutions) and PowerFaids


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field required

  • 1 year of professional experience preferred. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered

  • Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
    o Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form, including giving presentations
    o Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure
    o Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships, both internally and externally
    o Ability to understand and follow instructions
    o Must possess excellent presentation, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills
    o Must have the ability to work independently, as well as with teams of colleagues, and possess the aptitude for detail-oriented tasks
    o Must also possess strong time management skills, a sense of humor, and have the ability to prioritize and balance responsibilities
