Under general direction, is responsible for increasing public awareness of Library services and programs and disseminating public information through various channels. This professional level senior public information expert contributes to the Library's position as a major community public service asset by engaging a full range of tools, strategies and techniques. The ideal candidate will be an excellent writer, proactive and strategic professional with a committed work ethic. A team player with a willingness to take on responsibilities and tasks as needed is essential. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. May exercise supervision over assigned staff.
Essential Job Functions:
Serves as an information expert on Library services, programs and positions to the media, community and other stakeholders.
Researches information and interviews internal and external clients and partners to create public relations tools such as requests for coverage, news releases, marketing collateral content, ad copy, and special articles to promote the Library.
Serves as a lead to proactively identify media opportunities across all platforms as well as serve as contact person and information resource to media who approach the Library with story requests.
Serves as functional lead on the Library's social media channels and collaborates on social media strategic direction with the Community & Public Relations Manager.
Leads efforts to organize press conferences and other events with speaking programs including drafting remarks and program run of shows.
Leads the daily tracking of media coverage for Library news and trends of interest using the information to prepare reports in various formats for Library stakeholders.
Tracks statistical data for creative campaigns and compiles it into reports as needed.
Collaborates creatively with other team members on marketing campaigns.
May serve as official representative for media appearances in various formats as needed.
Assists with gathering information for basic public information requests and award submissions.
Assists the Community & Public Relations Manager with the yearly advertising plan.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.


Job Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field.

Five (5) years professional experience in Public Relations.

This position requires a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License OR valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Use of your own personal vehicle may at time be required and proof of Liability Insurance will be required.
