Job Description:

The University of Miami BASCOM PALMER EYE INSTITUTE, has an exciting opportunity for an Imaging Technician.

This position consists of daily Echography care and management of all Bascom Palmer Eye Institute patients, assisting with junior Echography training, and maintaining all digital equipment and image storage by transferring and archiving all imagery. Further facades of the job include providing assistance with Junior Echography, OR Echography, and actively participating / assisting in research projects related to Ophthalmic Echography. In addition, the position consist of patient screening and visual acuity, Humphrey Visual Field testing and be able to perform keratometry, axial eye length measurement and IOL calculations, and with a willingness to learn more diagnostic ophthalmic photography techniques.



  • Perform all Echography without supervision, with a high degree of quality and efficiency: Fundus Photography, Fluorescein /ICG Angiography, Slit lamp/Gonio Photography, External Photography, Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Flare Meter.

  • Maintain minimum average productivity in procedure volumes

  • OR Photography-Retcam Fundus camera and OCT systems

  • Register patients accurately in photography Digital logs and in Camera computer system.

  • Print out all necessary photos and scans for the review and diagnosis of physicians.

  • Insure Web-billing accuracy

  • Eliciting and recording chief complaint/interval history.

  • Eliciting and recording patient and family ocular history.

  • Eliciting and recording patient family medical history.

  • Measurement of visual acuity at distance and near with:



  • Ocular surface dysfunction assessment:

  • tear break-up time (TBUT)



  • Schirmer testing



  • Fluoreseein and rose bengal stein pattern



  • Applanation tonometry:

  • Goldmann

  • Tonopen

  • Insertion and removal of hard and soft contact lenses.

  • Administration of diagnostic pharmaceutical agents.

  • Humphrey visual field testing.

  • Basic echography.

  • Basic ocular photography

  • Color vision screening.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • High School graduate / Equivalent Required. Additional photography courses desired.

  • Five (5) years of Ophthalmic Photography experience required or educational experience.
