Member of Technical Staff Job

Design, build, and operate mission-critical agent and connector infrastructure that enables reliable, secure, and scalable access to external systems through APIs, MCP servers, and other integration patterns. Lead major technical initiatives across the platform, from new connector frameworks and execution layers to multi-team redesigns that improve extensibility, reliability, and developer velocity. Improve platform reliability, security, and operability by implementing authentication, authorization, rate limiting, observability, testing, and failure-handling mechanisms across diverse integrations. Collaborate across product, platform, and applied teams to determine when to extend shared connector primitives versus build specialized integrations for strategic partners or high-impact use cases. Translate customer and internal product needs into generalized platform capabilities for connecting Perplexity to third-party tools, data sources, and workflows. Shape the technical foundation of Perplexity’s connectors ecosystem by architecting distributed systems, optimizing performance at scale, and defining standards that make integrations fast, resilient, and easy to build on. Uphold engineering excellence through thoughtful system design, code quality, design reviews, and strong internal documentation. Drive a platform vision that supports both traditional API-based integrations and emerging AI-native protocols such as MCP, enabling Perplexity products to interact with external services in a consistent, secure, and scalable way.

*May telecommute up to 2 days per week.

Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Experience: Four (4) years of experience in the job offered or software engineering role.
Skills: Python, Go, or Rust; PostgreSQL; DynamoDB; Redis; FastAPI; React; Bazel; GitHub; AWS; modern DevOps tools including Kubernetes and CI/CD; LLM or natural-language APIs (latency tuning, streaming, model orchestration).
